The problem is Shane Pinto is needed.

He's an important part of the depth at center. If Norris goes down, who ya got? Greig, which looks decent, but is also injury prone due to his physical game. We making the playoffs with Kastelic as our 2C?

When you evaluate "fair value", you also need to consider cap space gained and the addition of Pinto.

We let Pinto sit a year, he'll probably request a trade before next season, and then good luck getting fair value for him.

If Norris goes down, we see how long he can stay on LTIR for.

Then we see if we can sign Pinto.

If that's past December 1st you can't

What if he goes down after December 1st?

Or he goes down, but will be back in 2 months? If you sign Pinto then, you have even less leverage to dump a contract when Norris comes back.

Without Pinto, we have no backups at center. Kiss playoff hopes goodbye. Because we didn't want a 3rd instead of a 2nd for Brannstrom, or Kubalik, or had give away a second for Joseph?

FWIW, I'm pretty open minded as to what a fair trade would be for Ottawa.

There are 31 other teams to trade with and we only need to trade with 1.

And? Teams won't take sweetheart deals out of "the good of their heart" bc they are being paid to win a cup
