I won't speak on the rest of the teams but this is a very poor interpretation of Washington and what Sensonfire said about them. The comment about picking 8th was in regards to last year and referring to the Nylander trade, and that trade isn't remotely feasible for Washington not only because no team would trade a guy they just picked in the top 10 for a rental, but also because Washington doesn't have the cap space to take on Nylander.

You're comment about the Caps making a bunch of moves also isn't true, even if fans wish it was, in fact it's been one of the main gripes fans have had with management. Outside of a small trade for Edmundson and one single key signing, that being Pacioretty, the Capitals have been largely unable to make moves to the dismay of fans and management. With the team the way it currently is, and the season seemingly is a bridge year into a bigger year next year, there's little incentive for Washington to move a 1st round pick when the team is unlikely to make it past the 2nd round (putting it optimistically), and that's if they make the playoffs at all. See 2021 for what the Capitals are much more likely to do (mid round picks for depth like Larsson and Johansson). Bertuzzi also has a NMC and has no incentive to waive it, especially when he clearly wants to be in Toronto, so I see no way in which he suddenly decides to be traded away.

Man they trade zuzy for a second and they have more than enough cap space I just didn’t want to take anyone back

I meant from the draft (Leonard) to UFA signings (Paccioretty) to full seasons after trades (Edmuson, Bert, Sandin) and a piece coming back after a 'normal' offseason (Backstrom), I would expect Washington to be a lot better from last year...

Also, this is disregarding NMCs, it's more the trade itself

And how do you imagine they go about bringing back both Bertuzzi and Nylander next year? Ignoring that no team is trading someone they drafted top 10 just 3 months ago for a rental, who plays center with Kuznetsov gone? You've theoretically jammed the wings (which already have Ovechkin, Wilson, Pacioretty, Mantha, Oshie, Milano, Protas, Aube-Kubel all under contract) while just creating a different hole in the team at center. If Washington wants Nylander, they'll try to get him in free agency when they have more cap flexibility, or at minimum they won't be trading Leonard for him. The Caps have zero reason to destroy the pick+prospect pool they just restocked for two rentals they have no guarantee will re-sign just to maybe have the opportunity to lose to Carolina or New Jersey in the 2nd round, especially with the Oshie and Backstrom contracts still on the book. And again, Bertuzzi has an NMC and no incentive or reason to waive it.

Even at a lot better with a fully revived Backstrom, resurgent Kuznetsov+Mantha, healthy Pacioretty, and Edmundson not being hot garbage, do you really think the team is anything more than a 2nd round loss to Carolina or New Jersey? Even adding Bert (which they don't currently have space for), the Caps are unlikely to beat the best teams in the league. Not only that, but MacLellan rarely trades 1st round picks (has only done it twice since he took over in 2014 which were for Shattenkirk and for dumping Panik's salary). It would be completely averse to his history to empty out the pick and prospect stockpile in a lean year, especially when the next crop of Capitals prospects looks just as useful to the team as 1 year of Nylander or Bertuzzi is.

Value wise most of these trades make sense, besides the Leonard for Nylander one.

Situation wise none of these teams besides Ottawa would take that, you can maybe make an argument for Edmonton but even then it sends us into cap hell within 2 years.

IDK, I guess we have to see how it all plays out but I think they can, with the right moves, beat NJD and go toe to toe with CAR, never underestimate OVI... But again, we will see how it turns out

Cool, with what money? Nylander obviously will command at least 9.5 million and Washington:
Has Wilson's contract kicking in
Needs to re-sign McMichael, Sandin, Protas who will all likely command raises
Still have Oshie and Backstrom under contract (combined 14,950,000 dollars between the two)
Given the Caps current situation (84 million in salary), even with subtracting Mantha (expiring) and adding 3.5 million to the cap, Washington would only have 9.2 million in cap space, not nearly enough for Nylander and especially not enough when Sandin, Protas, and McMichael need new deals. It's also never a given that someone signs where they get traded to, especially when Nylander could command 10 million on the open market. Its not feasible for Washington without a loss and trading Leonard for someone who likely walks at the end of the year just isn't going to happen.

Edit: Did not mention Edmundson expiring but his money is cancelled out by Wilson's extension.

You forgot that the Canucks are also dumping all 6 mill of Myers and only get Brodie half retained

they are not going to move their first because of "cap purposes" they can move cap in other ways
