Calgary 1st isn't high enough to justify this for the Devils. Dvorak is completely unwanted and Slaf is currently a massive downgrade from Mercer

I don't see the necessity by NJ or by MTL to doing that trade. NJ will work with a guy like Mercer in their lineup and MTL will gonna develop Slafkovsky as well, and I'm very confidente with the Habs management.

I'm rather have Anderson than Marchement, Anderson is a way better goal scorer and he is a more physical player.

Its too early to call Slaf a bust. He spent most of his rookie year injured. He needs a 2 or 3 more seasons to be truly judged.

I get that NJ doesn’t do that for a win now reason, but I think this is worse for MTL. Mercer is not what Slaf can become, IK its ‘can’ but he still has a decent chance of hitting his potential compared to most prospects

Devils literally have one of the best cap situations in the league.

I think devils cap problems, if any, are 3-4 years away as guys like Hughes, Holtz, Nemec start to get paid. In near term, we are in good shape, and expect a big Mercer extension.

Personally, I think Habs should have taken Nemec in 2022, Michkov in 2023. (Or Cooley, Michkov). But too early to give up on Slafkovsky.

Prior to the 2022 a lot of devils fans were all in on Slafkovsky because we desperately needed a power forward with size and skill in our top 6. Now, that need is no longer than with the trade and extension of Timo Meier. I still like Slafs raw potential but I think Mercer fits the Devils system really well and is quite literally the teams Swiss Army knife. I don’t think the trade is bad in terms of value but rather I don’t think either side would feel comfortable making the trade.
