Description
Rossi might be a really nice fit here and don't 100% know his value. Min gets a first, a good middle six winger and a RD with some upside (OTT will likely lose him to waivers to start the year so I think they should trade him).

As far as the lines go, I like the balance of it all. Tarasenko gives the top line a bit of everything, Batherson gets Norris back and Rossi a nice playmaker for both of them. Giroux mentors the young guys which looked really nice last year. The fourth line will be a pain to play against but actually has some offensive punch. Rossi could start in the minors to start the year with Joseph up on the second line and crookshank/smejkal playing on the fourth.

The D has a stud on each pair. Chycrun can slide to the right side and get some double duty as well. I call this the Tampa method from their time with Hedman, McDonagh and Sergachev.

Saying a 21 with limited opportunity and a illness that affected his heart is a bust is ignorant.

Especially one with the passing and overall ability of Rossi.

Drafted 9OA three years ago and has a whopping 21 career nhl games played with 1 assist. Has shown nothing significant at the NHL level along with mediocre AHL stats. If any gm paid a likely top 16 pick+ for him they should be fired into the sun.

Minnesota likely just hangs onto him and prays he can bounce back to relevancy. I can't imagine the league has a TON of interest for a 5'9 bust anyway.

You're much better off keeping Kubalik who is good for 20g 40pts

Kubalik is great and all, but OTT needs the cap space for Pinto and is set for their top-9 without Kubalik. He's a cap casualty, unfortunately, and Rossi would/could end up in the minors.

Giroux-Stutzle-Tarasenko
Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Grieg-Pinto-Joseph
Sokolov-Kastelic-Smejkal/MacEwen

I'm sure MIN would appreciate a cheap scoring winger with their cap constraints moving forward, even if it is just for one season.

I think Pinto might take a cheap deal for one year, like Ty Dellandrea did.

Boy, I sure hope so! Pull a LaBanc and sign incredibly cheap 1-yr deal post ELC. But, even if Pinto signed a $1mil deal, that puts us over the cap with Sokolov still to sign. Unfortunately, we should never have signed Tarasenko and doing so has put us in quite the bind here.

You can't control myocarditis or injuries, we'll see the player he is this year if he is fully healthy and is given the opportunity.

You are falling to take into account that his first full years were also during Covid seasons.

Christ, you really are ignorant aren't you?

Again, Rossi missed an ENTIRE YEAR OF CRUCIAL DEVELOPMENT TIME, it's more correct to put his development around D+2 then D+3.

THAT MATTERS.

Furthermore, if you think being near a PPG in his first season back from that missed season, and at a PPG in his 2nd season down in the AHL is mediocre.... ooooh boy. I'm not sure that word means what you think it means.

He was literally still just ranked as a top 30 prospect in the league by Wheeler of the Athletic and as the 62nd best player/prospect on Pronman's under 23 rankings which includes players who've already graduated to the NHL. That's in spite of the fact Pronman is a known disliker of Rossi.

Finally, no player is a bust at 21. Where they where drafted is and will always be irrelevant. It takes up to a player's age 23 season for them to typically develop and fully mature as a player if they're a forward, 25-26 for defenseman, and 26-27 for goaltending.

It's often been stated by professionals that it typically takes around 164 games in the NHL level to know what and who a player is. Rossi has played barely 20 games to date.

By your metric. Then players like Jack Hughes, Brayden Point, Joel Eriksson-Ek, and Tage Thompson are all *busts*, because they didn't produce right away. The expectation that players do so is and always be asinine. Players that produce right away are always the exception, not the rule.

Really well said.

When one person goes against the grain it generally doesn't make them right. They are the outlier in the overall consensus.

I remember a 67's staff member said that they could count on Rossi and someone else for 4 pts a night. He was that dominant in junior even before his draft year.

As a Sens fan, I'm hoping for a Minnesota and Ottawa final with Rossi playing a big part for Minnesota and Sokolov playing a big part for Ottawa.

OP, when you say "Tarasenko gives the top line a bit of everything", what do you mean? Because he's a pure offensive player and won't add anything 2-way

But assuming this trade would happen, this gives a very good lineup. I'm not sure Minnesota would be ready to trade Rossi just yet though. He's still a Top-50 prospect

The PD comment is so on point lol

Tarasenko is a perfect shooter for the top line. Brady does the dirty work, Timmy does the playmaking and Tarasenko shoots. Thats what I meant by a bit of everything.

yeah lol

I hope Stutzle and Tkachuk continue to progress defensively to help out Tarasenko. That line could defend by attacking a lot actually, that's what they need to do, maintain possession
