It’s August. I have not followed every contract negotiation. And I doubt we see EP40 anywhere else for next 9 years, but we need something to talk about until camps open.

Pronman is a dud. Also just because they would be top 5 in our prospect pool, it’s basically just a reflection of how bad our prospect pool is, not how good those guys are. You want great? Expect to give up great. Cozens or Power

Canucks decline. Just because those guys would be 2/3/4 in our pool doesn't mean they're valuable enough to be the big pieces we'd target in a Pettersson deal. Canucks would want the guys from the top of Buffalo's list, not the ones who aren't in the top 5.

Disregarding total value, those 2 are for sure within the top 5 of Sabres prospects. Savoie is top 3 in every ranking, and Ostlund has been slandered way too much on HF. Just sayin.

Vancouver should of trade either Connor Garland, Sheldon Dries, or JT Miller (in my opinion).

I think pretty much every other player on the team would be traded before Peety.IMHO.

I'm not great with prospect rankings, so that could be possible. Always depends on what source you use. Would make it a more interesting offer, though I still don't think it would be enough.

Savoie for sure is top 5 Sabres prospect in every ranking. Tops out at 2, lowest he’ll be is 4.
Ostlund is anywhere from 5-7. But with those rankings some still use Cozens/Power/Levi. I would put him at 5/6. Krebs would be the young roster player, not a prospect. I’m not saying van will/should trade him, I’m just letting all of you know that you aren’t gonna get a teams 1,2,3,4 and 5 prospects multiple firsts and promising roster players. A mix of those for sure, but not all combined. I’ve seen Kulich (2) Ostlund (5) and 2 firsts get rejected vehemently. The only reason these proposals get sent out is because the player (EP) hinted at might be open to leaving.

Option 1: Sell Garland and Miller for mostly cap clearance as the return. Spend a summer or two as buyers in corresponding moves.

Option 2: Deal Pettersson, maybe Hughes and Demko too, commit to full rebuild, spend next 3-4 years in tankville.

Option 3: Extend Pettersson, keep others, try to patch up defense, play for Wild Card spot.

Which gets them a cup sooner?

In my opinion, I don’t expect Pettersson to be moved at all. I don’t buy the fact that he wants to leave. People are mostly feeding off the fact that he’s said he isn’t engaging in contract talks right now. I may be misremembering, but I’m pretty sure the same thing happened on his ELC. He stopped negotiations once the season started, then they picked back up after the season was over and eventually got a deal hammered out.

If Pettersson really does want out, I think there’s two scenarios. Either the Canucks trade him in a Tkachuk-style deal, or they move him for a futures package like this. However, I can’t see them moving him for a futures package. Doing so would mean a full year down and rebuild, which will never ever happen so long as Aquilini owns the team as he’d never allow it. That leaves a Tkachuk-style deal as the other option. Most likely scenario would be Pettersson gets swapped for a deal involving another young top 6 C plus other assets, where Pettersson is a bonafide 1C while the guy coming back is a 2C, meaning the other team adds to bridge the gap in value.

Value wise this is probably close to accurate, the problem is that it’s just not a trade I can see management or ownership ever making under any circumstances, even if their lives depended on it.
