Currently, the Cats LD is Forsling and a prayer. The ghost of OEL, Mike Rielly and Niko Mikkola... Florida could afford to move a forward. It's not going to be Verhaghe, they just signed ERod, and Lundell doesn't make enough to clear the room, which leaves Bennett. Skjei improves the Cats. Minor pieces could be added to balance this out, but it doesn't feel like an awful starting point.

That is a reasonable trade for buffalo with some protection on the pick.

Also, I have to imagine Bennett isnclose to untouchable. His contract on a max cap team is invaluable. They will deal with defensive injuries, but he stays

Wouldn't have happened yet, the Canes are still trying to get a deal done with Pesce. It will happen if it's going to in September at some point.

Could be but highly doubt the Sabres would have signed who they did.

He doesn’t. Adam’s doesn’t make massive moves like this and he definitely won’t for a 2RHD. If Pesce isn’t staying in Carolina, he can just wait until free agency to target him or go after somebody else for cheaper. That price tag is way too high.

Pesce also wants 7m+… and we see how bad those contracts age when given to DFD’s

Florida passes. Bennett is a pest in the playoffs and moving him destroys their C core. They have enough LHD they don’t need to add another.

If Kevyn Adams or any GM was offering a deal this large, with the defensive talent in carolina I would have to think a deal would be done already.

Not if the Canes thought they could get a deal done. There's no reason to move Pesce if you think you can keep him, meaning trying to get his ask on term down

The Florida deal makes sense for a sense of need by both team
But that is poor deal for the Sabres. Pesce isn't pushing them over the top this season. Sign and trades really don't happen one year away from agency. Seven years of Pesce may not good value for any team.

I like that Bennett trade, a line with Bunting and Bennett would be brutal to play against especially come playoff time. Him and Konecny are targets that make a lot of sense.

Word on the street from Sabres "insiders" is that Pesce would't waive to go to Buffalo.

The biggest hurdle- imo- is the contract Pesce wants
He’ll turn 30 very early on in the 1st year of his new deal,
and i highly doubt the Sabres would sign him to a contract that takes him to 37 years old

And i don’t think we’d trade for him before the season starts either- looks like we are content with our current team the way it looks right now
