McDavid next to almost anyone is nuts. Lots of guys next to McDavid would be crazy good. Matthews would score 100 goals on a line with McDavid.

BIG No. Tkachuk's the 2nd best player in the league right now.

Okay, you want the raw data? It says the same thing... Tkachuk just had the best all-round season of ANY player in the league, McDavid included and he scored 150 points. McDavid's the best player in the league, but Tkachuk is closer to McDavid than anyone else is to Tkachuk

A fun game would be trying to think of who is the *worst* player you could stick next to McDavid and still have them turn into a PPG player.

Would love seeing a line that's like, Joel Armia - McDavid - Ross Johnston just to see what those two guys wind up with after 82 games together.

The fact that someone published a chart that say Tkachuk is twice as good as Draisaitl in GF/60, 6x better for xGF/60 and 11x better for CF/60 is hilarious.

The only thing funnier is that you believe it's true! laugh laugh

Oh, you think the chart changes base value? Aww... no, these are base NST stats just divides by ice time. Tkachuk is streets clear of Draisaitl right now, trying to argue this is just pure bias LMAO

You can believe what you want. At the end of the day Leon puts up more goal and more assists than Tkachuk. And when they met in the playoffs, Draisaitl set a record for scoring in a single series. There's no way Edmonton considers a 1-for-1.

Draisaitl plays on a team with this McDavid dude... Tkachuk just had a 100 point season playing with Sam Bennett...

Almost like being part of one of the best powerplays in league history would do that... Tkachuk is MUCH better than Drai 5v5, and majority of the game is played 5v5, making him the better player overall.

Or, you could understand that I do, and try to understand why even-strength stats are more important and a MUCH better indication of a player...

At the end of the game, the team with the most goals wins. Goals scored at even strength don't carry any more value than goals scored on the PP or PK.

What is really funny is how Oiler fans disrespect McDavid by giving all the credit to Draisaitl's stats to Draisaitl. You guys honestly think without Draisaitl McDavid would score way less. Put any high end player next to McDavid and they score 30-50 more points. Pick any top player from any team and replace Draisaitl with that guy and you won't notice a drop off. But take McDavid and replace him with anyone and Draisaitl loses 20-30 points.

McDavid and Draisaitl don't play on the same line all that much, less than 50% of the time for sure. And they clearly have a symbiotic relationship where they make each other better. On the PP they're the best duo on the league, if you took Draisaitl and replaced him with Tkachuk you would see McDavid's point totals dip too. It's not a 1-way street.

What is IPP? Explain it, and explain what's actually going on on the ice to impact it?

I'm all for analytics but too often people will use it and have zero clue what is the on-ice impact that contributes to it. You can watch a guy play every game and be like "wow he's really not very good" and then some random model of aggregated data says "no his expected [insert arbitrary stat here] is much better than what you see".

IPP means individual points percentage, and is very simply a player's total points divided by on-ice goals. If a player was on the ice for 100 goals and has 75 points, his IPP will be 75. He was involved in 75% of the plays that led to goals.

This is a good indication of how much each player is impacting the on-ice results.

The lower a player's IPP, the more help he had creating his point totals.

So you agree that Karlsson is far and away the best defenseman?

What is your criteria for "best defenseman"? IPP only looks at offensive production. Karlsson won the Norris last year based on offensive production and his IPP backs that up.

False, Draisaitl still plays over a third of his 5v5 icetime with McDavid where he scores a lot of his even strength posts. I wager it's close to half if not more and all his PP points come with McDavid on the ice. So you can't say McDavid doesn't give Draisaitl major points.
