Monahan is still a very good players, ? Mark is can he stay healthy. If he can play a complete schedule 25 goals is a realistic 55-60 points. That was is pace last season before season ending injury. He was pretty good at start for the 1/4 season he played. Any team that contains for Stanley Cup would like to have a Monahan ( healthy) in is team. Especially at under 2 millions. It’s not unreasonable to expect a that kind of return. First round pick are so much overrated. A team that will trade for Monahan would be a contending one, so they would assume they are giving a 20-32nd pick. Draft is just like a lottery, first 10 picks are usually have better odds to have a 200 games career. 10th-20th this number drops drastically and after 20th the odds of drafting a impact players are the same that there in casino game. The point of rebuilding team is to acquire more lottery ticket. At that point if Sakic believes that Monahan is the pieces he need he will gave away a late first. Colorado don’t need a players who will help them in 3-4-5 years maybe. You have a team that are supposed to win each year and knowing about Mackinnon desire for the win you know that your team is competing. The lost of Landeskog cross with Kadri departure really left a hole. Depth is so much important for playoffs team. You saw it with Tampa also, you must maximize the windows. Makar and Rantanen will get paid and both will have a major raise.

This was really challenging to follow. Monahan hasn’t had a 25 goal or 60 point season since 2018-2019. Monahan’s trade value is not a 1st. Thanks.

1 year of Myers at 6 mil is infinitely times better than 4 years of Anderson at 5.5 mil. Xhekaj probably wouldn’t make our lineup, and Podkolzin is more valuable than him anyways. The Canucks are still high on Podkolzin

You are not the one who know what a players is worth. Monahan is worth what the sellers ask for. If their 8 teams on Monahan at deadline then the price will naturally goes up and it will come at the end at who want him the most. It’s a basic economic notion. The offer and the demand. Each year there numerous team that trade away quality assets and it won’t different this year. You guy’s though you would get Lehkonen for a third round pick. If Sakic believes is best chance at Stanley cup is adding Monahan then sacrificing a late first round will be the last of is concern. He gave up Barron and Helleson the same deadline. He would do it all over again.
As for now i would say that there not much demand for Monahan since many team already are over the cap.

Man, I love when Montreal fans try to explain economics to me.

You’re right, a market is based on supply and demand. At the trade deadline, there will be a demand for middle 6 forwards. The supply of middle 6 forwards available will also be high as teams outside of the playoffs move their expiring contracts. This market sets the price of the asset.

If the price is set above market value, then a good is not purchased. If Montreal sets the price of Monahan at a 1st round pick, he simply won’t be moved. “It’s a basic economic notion”

Monahan is a center captain. And Monahan healthy is a bonified second line players. Monahan healthy score 30 goals and over 60 points numerous time. How many players that caliber will you think there be available captain. 10-25. Their might be only 3-5 players that will be better target at the deadline. There 16 playoff team. There if Monahan is healthy then the return will be substantial. If Chiarot got a first round pick not sure why you are so sure that Monahan can’t land a first. You might not want to pay that but it might very well be happening. Is salary, is potential, the players he is when healthy. All those thing are worthy of first round pick. Paul Stastny got traded for a first when he was on the decline. Kevin Hayes landed a first, Detroit got a first for Mantha. Not sure why you are so stubborn about it. You are not the one that take the decision ecause you wouldn’t be sitting in front of your phone talking with me. Monahan might not play a game this year and be useless. All those thing are hypothetical.

Anderson contract would cost a 1st+ to move, don't see why Podkolzin would be included.

Because it would require us to take Anderson's albatross contract while giving up Podkolzin who has potential to be better than Anderson who is a defensive liability, and doesn't provide enough offense for him to be worth his contract(Canucks have enough of those)

For now, Anderson is better. And we have the cap to keep him. So we keep him. Also, I’m not a fan of Podkolzin. Would take Hog before
