I get that Nurse' contract sucks but getting older now and trading their next 1st+2nd isn't the move to make, Fowler doesn't waive anyway.

A 20 man roster is pretty much common practice now for contenders. It has happened many times over the past several seasons. Not a long term great idea but for stretches it certainly is possible and has been done.

Anaheim declines the offer relatively fast.

Darnell Nurse is overpaid way too much and is no better than a middle pair defenseman

It's not recommended do to the fact in case of injuries it leaves you short. Sure teams do it. But it's not wise.

It only leaves you short for 1 game maximum. Pretty sure if a guy gets hurt in warm-ups or the morning skate you will have to play short handed. But after that game you get an emergency call up that is cap exempt. It certainly can put you in a bad spot but the NHLPA has made sure that player safety is important and so when a guy gets hurt the team doesn't just play short handed until he's back, teams could end up playing with no spares or a 4th line if that happened.
