Would be hard to turn that down from the Leafs side of things. They may need to make another cap move though. Petry at that low cap becomes a very good asset in my mind.

If the Sabres are gonna take a shot at a goalie, they will aim higher than allen. Honestly nobody is looking for a goalie, I expect allen to be tough to move.

It would definitely be a hard pill to swallow losing Hirvonen but if Petry helps us get farther in the playoffs I think the leafs could do it

The reason Petry ended up in MTL?
Ironically he was one of the Few Teams not on his No Trade List.
IF TML wasnt on it they woulda have @ 25% RS to match a Cap Dump MTL got rid of in the exchange.

The reason he's back in MTL?
No other team could fit him cap wise that needed /wanted him
His Cap getting smaller doesnt address these issues that say PIT take a huge hit on the Chin RS on Petry after losing the deal to us as Matheson thrives.

You know how out of options you have to be to engage with a team who just made you look like an idiot in a trade??
It wasnt because there was alternatives that wanted less then a 1st round pick ++ for Petry just because they were on his list and had leverage

That's an interesting point. There's almost no risk- you aren't giving up anything, and with the retention he's making like 3m. You should be able to retain again, at worst, if it really doesn't work out. I wonder if Terry would have a problem because his actual salary is higher than his cap hit, usually we seem to be going the other way.

If his bonuses have been paid you are basically getting him for 1.5m a year for 2yrs

Let's just be glad that this proposal, along with all of the others posted today in the wake of the Karlsson trade, didn't resort to the tired and illogical pattern we saw from Penguin fans all offseason trying to unload Petry to Buffalo. That was a tiresome theory that, despite never making any sense for Buffalo, kept getting pitched over and over.

This is the price we pay for being an up and coming team with cap space. It's a lonely club.

Even at 35 with that retention he would be are 3rd of 4th best D man. Guy hits and blocks shots as much as Clifton and can play 20/21 minutes a night.

That’s cheap enough to take a chance on him
But i like Clifton significantly more as a partner for Power
I guess Petry could be a good plan b, but i don’t think I’d do this until mid season, and only if Clifton & Erik Johnson looked bad

I just don’t like Petry the way u do
He’s not good defensively and i don’t think he’s a good fit for us

Dear Habs fans,
the Sabres don’t have any interest in Allen whatsoever
And ditto for Wideman

I wouldn’t take those Cap hits off your hands if u gave them to us for free, let alone pay a 3rd for them

No, No, No, No, No
Thanks anyways, hard pass

The only *reasonable* player of yours we might- i repeat, might- be interested in would be Dvorak
But even with him it’s just a maybe
And we aren’t giving you a 1st or a good prospect for him

I really don't get where you say he's not good Defensively. His numbers are basically on par with Clifton and he played 4min a night more than Clifton. I have No problem with Clifton I think he was a decent get. I would take them both Clifton and Petry. Are Defense just became very Physical and hard to play against.

I watch a lot of Hockey, I saw him play a bit last year and he actually helped Pettersson look like a viable top 4 Dman. Clifton Petry Johnson at RD is not bad. Plus you added about 400 hits a year and probably 250 blocked shots.

Doing that at RD means we split up Samuelsson & Dahlin,
and that makes no sense to me at all
Our record with them paired together last year was great

I’m more than happy with Dahlin, Clifton & Johnson on the right side
And I’m not counting out Jokiharju yet either

It amazes me to no end that some Sabres fans think they can pick and choose whom they want when nearly every player in the league would think twice about playing in the KHL over Buffalo. Chris Wideman and his dogs probably would just terminate his deal and return there to make more money tax free over there.

You may want to listen to the Adams and Granato interviews, where they explained how they view the "hits" statistic and its value - they each pointed out that taking a hit to make a play or getting body position to win a puck battle (neither of which isn't statistically measured) are just as important, if not moreso, than taking an opponent out against the boards or defusing an oncoming rush.

If that hit takes a player of the puck or takes away a scoring chance is just as important as body positioning. And you always want to try and defuse a oncoming rush by any means that you can. Whether it be by a big hit or a poke check or using your Body to force said opponent to the outside. It all goes hand in hand if you do it right.
