No need to sift back. My takeaway after a bazillion of these and ALL of the hockey media constantly drumming about how EK to Pitt was moving down the tracks was that is was only a matter of time and arrangement. I can't imagine a single person being surprised this happened. Don't really care about the actual pieces myself.
My thing here is people flamed me hard when I said...
1) Dubas had all the leverage and Grier had none.
2) Dubas won't have to use a 1st unless Petry and/or Granlund would get moved, and that even if both were moved it would only be one first.
3) That SJ would not get even close to the return they'd hope for because of Greier's lack of leverage.
They all said:
1) The Pens have no leverage
2) They'll have to use most of their picks and prospects they have just to move Petry and Granlund.
3) Nobody would ever trade for Rutta
4) DeSmith is a bum and nobody would ever want him.
5) They don't have the prospect pool to make this all happen.
In the end, Dubas spent a 1st (top ten protected), 2nd and Legare ( a crap prospect ) to not only get Petry, Granlund, DeSmith and Rutta off the books, but also get EK, a 3rd rounder and a decent depth forward.
