Very interesting. I hadn't truly thought about DET acquiring EK. They just signed Ghost. Not 100% sure what he does now.

This is one of the only teams that has the bad contracts to send back as well as a very loaded prospect pool that they could afford to send out multiple B level prospects and the cap space

remove Chiarot and Sharks would still decline because EK at 4x9 is worth more than that package of nothing plus a 10-15th 1st in a not great draft year

Fact of the matter there’s so many few interesting teams and not enough interest and cap space to get any massive pieces

Doubt Karlsson would waive for Detroit. Yzerman appears committed to a slow lengthy rebuild. No reporting has indicated interest regardless.

No slowly length rebuild overpay on term and AAV for Chiarot, Holl, Copp, Husso, Compher etc. I don’t even know what to call this

Agreed on those being rather bizarre contracts. But if Yzerman is projecting years left in the rebuild, most of those will be inconsequential.

What harm do those contracts have?
- Chiarot's will be up by the time Edvinsson needs his second.
- Copp and Compher will be up by the time Kasper and Danielson need raises, and if they make it sooner thats great as both would transition to W (increasing DET's face-off depth).
- Husso holds down the fort until Cossa is ready (AHL this season, starter for GR next year, in Detroit as Husso's contract expires).
- Holl.....well not too sure about that one lol

doubt SJ does this, but change the 24 1st to Detroit's... I honestly think Detroit will finish higher than Boston with Bergy and Krejci retiring

For one, you don't know what young players you're going to want to lock up long-term on a bigger deal e.g. Seider. For two, if I were the GM in Detroit I would be doing short easy flip contracts on players. And there's been tons of those in the dead cap era. That way you're not locked into big contracts long-term and have more flexibility while also being able to acquire more assets at the trade deadline. Copp, Compher, Chiarot, Holl are all contracts I would not have done. Sprong and Kostin are examples of what I believe DET should be doing.

Prospects can be interchangeable, but similarly to the other 31 teams, there are pretty easy “candidates” for the NHL lineup. SY isn’t the biggest fan of long term deals (I.e Bert, Cat, TB history) so who knows how he sees Seider, Raymond, etc.

Yzerman has blended in overpaying FA and getting short flippable contracts. The Wings have great cap positioning therefore can take a few more risks and gambles. Do I love it as a fan, not entirely, but I do like the direction the team is going.

I don't think Yzerman is in the EK65 Sweepstakes. He made his big summer move acquiring Cat.

Besides he'll have to pay Seider soon. That will eat up a lot of Cap. Much more than his current 833K. Hehe

Bruins are still strong on D and in goal though. But they have a real Mish Mash of forwards. I'm unsure if that will work out.

I think both picks finish in the 10-18 range overall.

Why would Ek want out of San Jose to go to Detroit? I’m very apologetic to Detroit residents but let’s face it San jose would be a much better lifestyle away from the rink and I can’t see the one ice product being competitive enough to make that sacrifice worth while. Only way I can see Detroit becoming linked to anything regarding ek is further retention even that seems unlikely.

Detroit has some nice suburbs. I don't think any player actually lives in Detroit. But I'm partial to living in San Jose. 😁

You could be right. I counted out Boston at the beginning of last season and ended up looking foolish. My uncle is a lifelong Bruins fan and he always reminds me. Hehe
