Chicago is close to his home. He doesn't have a NMC he has a limited NTC.

Karlsson is going for "lesser" pieces, the sooner people come to grips with that in this cap economy the better. He's not getting traded for much more than something like Smith and a 1st or two 2nds.

Petry has a 15 team no trade list, it includes all 7 Canadian teams and pretty much 8 Western teams. Pretty safe to assume that Chicago is one of those 15 teams.

Unlike most NHL players, he supposedly wants to be close to Detroit. Chicago is close to Detroit.

The prevailing ACGM opinion is that Petry is a bottom pairing dman worth less than half his cap hit. They conveniently ignore that he is far superior to Gudas, Klingberg, or Dumba. When he wasn't saddled with Dumoulin, he was consistent with his career standards.

The Hawks aren’t interested in taking on more cap for longer term unless they’re getting paid to do so. They’re not interested in being good next year, so getting a better player doesn’t appeal to them.

The driving distance from CHI to DET is about the same as from PIT: 290 miles. If Petry means Ann Arbor, the driving distance is a bit shorter - 250 from CHI to A2

If PIT wasn't on his NTC list and Petry is blocking Canadian cities and those far away from Ann Arbor, then DET would be a place he isn't blocking.
