How does that make even the slightest sense for Boston?

Well as of right now Pavel Zacha is their top line center. They get a very solid two way center while also getting a good pick and a prospect. The bruins still don’t know if Bergeron is coming back if he does retire they need help down the middle.

Zacha is better than Pageau

Yes very slightly but they’re close which is a very bad sign it doesn’t change the fact of how weak their center depth is

Zacha is a decent 2C, Pageau is a 3C. I dont think adding another mid player helps them at all. Trading debrusk+ for a Scheifele or someone who is an actual top 6 center makes more sense

Would rather stay younger and save cap for next season when we have 20+ mill in cap with still guys like Ullmark we could move and then make a big play next offseason for a better Center via trade or UFA.

Only way I can see debrusk being moved is at the TDL for picks and prospects if Boston is out of a PO spot and they want to do a big re-shaping of the roster

The open issue is whether Bergeron is coming back or not. If you trade DeBrusk for Pageau, you likely can’t move Zacha to center because of wing depth.

If we trade for a center, it will likely be a goaltender or Grzelcyk.

In other words this doesn't help the team at all. No need to downgrade in a trade if we aren't even getting a better C than Zacha out of it

Yes it does it helps bring a 2nd line center to your line up and gives a 2nd that can be used for another player or to upgrade that weak prospect pool. Not to mention the add of a prospect.

He’s not a #2. Not enough offense to be a 2. He’s a very good, high end, overpaid 3.

Boston already has a 5m 45 point 3C that is good defensively. They don’t need another. They need a 1. They have 4 middle 6 centers in the lineup every night and 5 of the 6 top NHL ready FW prospects are centers. They have little need for another middle 6 center.

Much rather let Geekie and possibly Merkulov get opportunities to see what they can do.

Yeah but Pageau is a 3C and the Bruins can't take on salary. Plus DeBrusk is a better player than Pageau.
