Is Erik Karlsson A Good Idea For the Sabres

Description
I'm not sure how good an on-ice fit Erik Karlsson is for the Sabres, but they certainly have the cap space (both now and in the future) and the assets needed to acquire him. (There are a variety of high-quality forward prospects that can be substituted for Isak Rosen if desired.)

I assume that one of Bryson or Stillman gets traded somewhere, and two forwards are added to the roster to fill it out.

I apologize for not being sufficiently familiar with the team to know the appropriate line combinations, but I assume that the defense pairings would be as shown.

Aside from Peterka and Quinn, excellent prospects in the pipeline include Kisakov, Kulich, Nadeau, Ostlund and Savoie up front and Ryan Johnson at LhD, so this team has a bright future even if they have to lose a few to add Karlsson.

I'll be interested to see how Buffalo fans answer this question.

Clearly they can afford it cap-wise, which can't be said for a lot of potential suitors. In terms of line balance, I'd have Karlsson away from Power since both are very offense-first guys.

We don’t need Karlsson. Not at the $ he gets and price to give up. Sabres would be happy to trade for a Pesce or sign Dumba as a ufa

Sabres score a lot and can’t defend. Karlsson is like the Exact opposite on what they need.

Kind of a luxury that would be wild to experience, but term and caphit is asking for trouble going forward, kind of like adding Campbell too the hawks before there run, but may run them into a needed sale also. Banner would be worth it, but also a lot of tough decisions going forward.

Anaheim shouldn’t have interest in helping out someone else with 4 years of retention

I think that $4.6 million for a second is a reasonable idea for us. Jackson LaCombe, Drew Hellesen, Olen Zellweger, Tristan Luneau, Noah Warren, Arthur Kaliyev and Sean Durzi were all taken with second-round picks. And note that the pick is one that would otherwise be used by a direct competitor of ours . . .

The Sabres are going to have to extend dahlin and power, a lot of that cap space will disappear when that happens. Plus their problem isn't scoring, it's the brutal play in their own end, something Karlsson isn't gonna help with. Anaheim isn't going to tie up a retention spot for 4 years, certainly not for just a second and Lyubushkin. Maybe a team like Pittsburgh would bite, but the retention will have to be all Sharks, whatever amount it is, and I would expect a fair amount of salary coming back, just to make the cap work. Maybe petry and rust or something.

Can I change my answer? Don’t believe it can be the final move, would need a dahlin 10x8 and a 2x5 on power, an upgrade of Comrie possibly with some cost certainty, maybe kid out of Florida and or hart out of Philly. Save a million for krebs and a couple for middlestadt and let’s get at it. Possibly a retained Gibson. Just some certainty and some kids to grow into roles and some elite talent all mixed together and hopefully some good times in Buffalo. Old islander gm believed you need to win a series 5vs5/special teams/goalie steal one/ and physical. Couple of the right adds and I think the team checks enough boxes going forward.
