My ask for Erik K

Équipe: 2023-24 Sharks de San Jose
Date de création initiale: 22 juill. 2023
Publié: 22 juill. 2023
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Prime 100 point Erik Karlsson is decent. For San Jose to pay him $21 million to not play for them, not sell tickets to their games or merchandise costs A LOT - Hence the trade is for an excellent Top 4 D, a prime D prospect a middling Forward prospect, a 1st rounder (20-32 overall) and PHI 2nd (33-40 overall). Its a steal!

Sharks can then flip Pesce to a team looking for RHD and pushing. Could make it Jokiharju and a 1st tbh, but lets not be greedy

I mean to me it isn't just the price for retention but who they retaining on... a guy who's in his early 30's primed for regression and they are asking us to give up our best prospect in the process.

It’s quite reasonable that SJ would want a top prospect for EK65

Will they get it?
Obviously that’s impossible to say

Maybe we’ll see at some point??

Yeah, I don't think you're valuing the proper things correctly here.
Very much in line with what a dumb GM would do IMO

I don’t value things properly but moments ago you just used Burns trade situation as a comparable to EK65?

it's very funny seeing how absolutely no one can agree on what karlsson is actually worth

if this wasn't a poverty league he'd actually be worth a lot more than what everyone expects.

Yes.
Don't let the Pointzzz fool you.
The contract in this current cap situation outweighs everything

Has nothing to do with the points, I never even referenced points in my prior comments. I mentioned age of the player at the time of the trade as well as the length of the remaining contract (and what age they’ll be). Mentioning the Norris was to establish the level at which EK65 performed

*(The Norris is just the points rephrased to sound better)*
And the age is a major factor. Anything over 30 at big numbers is sketch at best - Karlsson's recent history makes that even worse for him.
I've said it a bunch already - it only takes one GM (either stupid or in a rare situation), but that doesn't mean its a good trade or proper value.

Point is, if you averaged Karlsson's return on AGMs on CF - I'd take the under without hesitation

I'd agree but I think EK forcing the deal to a good team (and all of them being capped out) means the ret will need to be closer to 50% to even get that.
But again - never underestimate the stupidity of GMs so who knows

The Hurricanes won't overpay for an excess good like him but I wouldn't be shocked if Dubas panics and massively overpays for him

Dubas doesn't panic.

The Pens are in the really fun position where nothing they do long term matters, and thus can kind of just take major long term risks for the right price.
Is that risk Karlsson? IDK.

There are factors that make him valuable
& there are those that diminish that value

The only legit way this will be answered is when EK65 gets traded (IF he gets traded, that is)

Lmao, free at 50% ?? For EK65?

Essentially SJS retains 50% of EK65 and trades to you for future considerations ? Lol

Burns isn’t the comparable here and you know better. Burns was 37 with a deal that carried until he was 40. EK65 just won the Norris and his deal ends just after his 37th bday

EK65 will not re-create that season he just had so it seems like a bad idea to pay for something he won't fulfill

Panic is the wrong word to describe Dubas
The pens are just prolonging the eventual rebuild at the point

Maybe not, but did you consider the fact he put up 100pt on a terrible/near last place SJS team. Should he get traded to a well built contender, would it not be logical it would be easier/more likely for him to almost replicate last years numbers?

While Geno and Sid lace em up - you compete. It's going to be a decade of darkness either way, why rush into that?

No I'm not, he was getting all the minutes and the opportunities on the Sharks. He would have a lessened role in a team that doesn't need to solely rely on him

Oh boy. I don't know about that. I guess it only takes one GM but the entire league is capped out right now - and frankly I don't have a huge amount of confidence that EK can hold 8.whatever of value over the rest of his deal.

Personally, I'd take him for free at 50%. Or maybe a return like what they got for Burns (basically nothing).
I don't think he holds value

can’t see a world where SJ agrees to give him away for basically nothing while retaining half of his deal. he’s a valuable enough guy to have around (even if just to sell jerseys and tickets) that i doubt ownership will let that happen. better to just keep him if you can’t get anything.
