I suspect Briere would want more incentive to make this deal. Though I do think it would be in PHI's best interest to take on shorter term bad money for Ristolainen's lengthy albatross contract.

Petry is still a good player— he’s not a 6.25M player, but closer to 4. Hed be a solid add in PHI locker room and could fetch you guys (PHI) assets at the deadline if he’s retained

That's a misrepresentation of the transaction. Risto is owed $21.5m over four years. Petry and Granlund are owed $23.5m over two. If Briere is in tank mode for the next two years and wants more cap flexibility in years three and four, this is a reasonable option. I would want added futures if I'm Briere. Nothing crazy but at least a 2nd.

I think if the Sharks end up getting Granlund and Petry, their best bet is to see if they can up their value and try to send them elsewhere instead of taking on the instant dead weight in Ristolainen.
