Gonna take a little bit more than Samsonov and a half eaten pizza to get you Saros.

Replace Timmins & Robertson with Knies, and turn the 3/4/5 into a 1 and then I think it is actually being discussed without the phone being straight hung up by Trotz.

Feedback is welcome but let's not get carried away. Maybe replace the picks with a 1st, seems reasonable.

Is Hanifin that physical, the amount of hits he has doesn't make it look that way. Idk if the trade is even close with Willie and Brodie going the other way, plus adding Lafferty a very good 4th liner.

That is reasonable. Robertson is in no way a top prospect anymore so he has minimal value. Samsonov has no value let alone a contract, Nashville doesn't need him because they have Askarov in the pipeline who could come up if we did move Saros. Timmins is a bottom pair defenseman who probably has the most value out of the 3 players listed. So you are sending 3 players with very little value and 1 1st round pick for a top 5 goalie in the league. Realistic offer for Saros should be a Proven top 6 player not saying super star but proven 2nd line guy. Knies and 1st and 3rd.

Hanifin is just well-rounded with everything. Peeke adds more physicality, but both add good size, mobility and positioning. Backlund is an upgrade on Brodie, Nylander may be a slight upgrade on Hanifiin but not in my opinion. Lafferty was a healthy scratch at times in the playoffs, he's replaceable.

Samsonov clearly has value so maybe that's the disconnect here. He was a top 10 goalie last year at 25 years old and is a former first rounder. He posted the same save percentage as Saros and had a better GAA. Obviously he played on a better team but that's not nothing. He's also an RFA which means you'll have someone who can form a solid tandem with Askaraov that you'll be able to trade down the road, rather than having Askarov be stuck in the shadow of Saros only to have Saros walk for nothing. I think TImmins and Robertson have a lot of potential but you're right that they're not sure things, I just don't think you're going to get a sure thing like Knies, he's not even in the discussion.

Jackets pass. Replacing Peeke with another RD that we dont have space for does absolutely nothing for us. We also have no need for bottom 6 winger, as we have plenty. If we are trading Rosy and Peeke, we could easily get a better offer than this.

Robertson can't even stay healthy enough to play 50 games between the NHL and AHL in a season. He has lost more of his value than you think. Timmins is again a bottom pair defenseman on the Nashville roster that is already has 3 bottom pair defenseman. Samsonov like you said is coming off a career year so he will want to be paid accordingly but Nashville doesn't need to do that because of having Askarov in the pipeline and Lankinen as a backup who is more than capable of being a stop gap starter. Nashville is not a contender so they don't need to have a win now goalie especially if they trade Saros, Saros makes them a bubble playoff team because he can steal 15 games a season on his own with his **** defense he had last season. Nashville needs to think about the future and getting prospects/players that can help them in the next 2 years mainly down the middle.

Fair enough, but it looks like they're trying to remain competitive while Josi is in his window. What about McDonagh and Saros for Willy (resigned at 8x9) and Brodie? Huge upgrade for the top 6 and you can let Askarov and Lankinen take over.

Personally I wouldn't do it because the Preds have good young wingers but they have no true #1 Center coming up or in the team. If you can leverage Saros for draft capital or someone they believe can be a #1 center that is what you move Saros for. 8x9 for Nylander going into his mid 30's at that price doesn't do it for me.

TOR is not a very good trade partner for Saros given what has historically been reported as the price. Back at the deadline the ask an A-tier prospect and 2 1sts. That likely has come down a bit, but a top 6 projected a 1st and 2nd or 3rd for a top 5 goalie on a steal of a contract with term is going to cost a lot.

LeBrun reported that NSH isn't really even considering offers on Saros right now and he is likely to remain in NSH. They will likely resign him as they have the cap to give him whatever he wants. If TOR wants Saros they have to be willing to pay more than what they want because they don't have pieces that really interest NSH. Samsonov is likely an average goalie whose numbers got propped up by playing on one of the most dominant teams in the NHL. Another example of this is Georgiev. That said, he doesn't have a ton of value to the trade because it doesn't make sense for NSH unless something else enticing is part of the deal. He doesn't take anything, but he can't be the big piece in this trade. The only prospect TOR has that would interest NSH really is Knies. Knies, a 1st, Samsonov, and a 4th round pick is probably what is needed to get NSH to really consider that deal.

At the end of the day if TOR isn't willing to consider moving Knies+ in a deal for Saros, then NSH isn't going to consider moving Saros to TOR.

Well if that's the case then of course it's too much. I was entertaining the idea because I thought he had the perfect amount of term to transition our goalie of the future Joey "Brick" Woll into the elite starter he's bound to become.

And that has always been my thought that it likely just isn't happening because of the price NSH wants vs what TOR is willing to pay is to different. Both Woll and Askarov will be beasts in the future, but NSH is using Saros in a similar capacity to how you are speculating him in TOR. NSH can likely start making runs in 2 years when a lot of their prospects are readY to come up like Kemell, L'Heureux, Svechkov, and Schaefer with Tomasino and Evangalista likely already having made the starting lineup. Askarov comes in as a 1B to Saros and then they transition like Saros and Rinne did a few years ago, and Trotz is already on record saying that this the plan

I honestly didn't think it was realistic nor that the Leafs should pay the price, just spitballing.

Robertson is a top prospect to end up in LTIR
