A lot of recent posts about Gibson to Buffalo - did I miss a report or something or is this still based off his trade request?

That being said, this isn’t realistic at all. Multiple reasons why not actually:
1. Ducks likely have very little to no interest in UPL. They already have Dostal who looks like the starter of the future there and they’d likely bring in a veteran to be a mentor for him if they trade Gibson (probably some cheap UFA like Elliott or something)
2. Where is this price coming from? Goalies don’t historically return a lot of value, and 2 future 1st round picks + an organizational top prospect + young NHL goalie seems quite a bit high. That might be something to get Hellebuyck talks start but is too much for Gibson.
Gibson really isn’t an elite goalie anymore. Ducks fans argue that he’s had a terrible defence in front of him, but the bottom line is he doesn’t stop the puck. If you don’t stop the puck as a goalie you’re not that valuable.
3. This doesn’t really fit Anaheim’s needs. They’re loaded at defence already and again UPL doesn’t fit with them. I’m sure they’d jump on the picks, but I doubt any team is giving up even 1 top pick for Gibson let alone 2.

Anaheim needs young forwards and Buffalo has some so there could be a deal there to work. I’d think something is more realistic like JJ Peterka + 2024 2nd round pick + Eric Comrie
Ducks get their young forward with upside and a pick, but take back Comrie for his salary and Buffalo gets a guy that needs a new start.

They are rolling the dice with Levi and UPL. They aren’t trading for a goalie. I don’t love it, but I’m glad they aren’t trading for Gibson.

They’re goaltending is going to cost them then. I’m not high on either guy, UPL hasn’t lived up to the hype and I think Levi is overhyped. I think he’s better suited for a very good career backup, similar to Anton Khudobin than he is an actual starter

They just need one of them to be average they way they Sabres score goals.

It's an overpayment because of the $2 million retention ($8 million total), entirely unnecessary when you have $4.6 million in cap space. Remove that and one of the firsts and you're closer; now it's a question of fit.

@GreatWhiteNorth is correct in saying that Anaheim would probably be far more interested in a high-quality forward prospect (especially a RW) and a first. Something along the lines of Quinn or Rosen or Peterka and a first or second (depending upon the forward) is reasonable. I don't think that the Ducks are likely to trade Gibson unless they get quality rather than quantity, especially since Gibson's reported expression of willingness to be traded has been so quickly recharacterized as a "request to be traded."

Remove the picks plus swap Lindgren for Johnson and then I'd consider it if I were Adams but otherwise I hang up the phone on Verbeek.
