There's a difference between having a goalie who can play in the NHL and having an elite goalie who can steal you games

Detroit isn't in the position to spend all these assets on a pending UFA. Let alone a goalie.

I don't think Hellebuyck makes a lot of sense for Detroit right now. Detroit isn't going to be a playoff team this year. Both Buffalo and Ottawa are easily ahead of Detroit. Even if Detroit trades for DeBrincat they are still looking at finishing 7th in the division. The teams at the bottom of the East are getting better but the teams at the top of the East aren't declining as fast. So we are going to see a couple of teams that are good enough to make the playoffs that won't. So Detroit trading for a top 5 goalie really isn't a top priority right now.

First part just fifure out an extension. Second part hellebuyck is a top 5 goalie, it's really not that much fabbri is injured all the time, soderblom is 22 has played 21 games and is expendable, Wallander also expendable. I don't understand the view of getting Debrincat and still losing.

Look at the eastern conference and list the 8 teams you think make the playoffs.

Florida and Vegas did pretty well without a top 5 goalie. Fabbri holds no value in a trade. Soderblom is 6'8 and last year was a rookie adjusting to the NHL. Wallinder is Seider's future D partner. DeBrincat expedites the rebuild, he doesn't just make them a contender.

There's a line between rushing and accelerating a rebuild.
Trading, with immense leverage, for a 25 y/o goalscorer that wanted to be a Red Wing is accelerating, trading for a 30 y/o goalie (that probably wants to be a Red Wing) is rushing.
