Agreed but 4 years have yielded good draft picks based on the lottery that didn't go the Red Wings way. The FA signings are players to bridge the gap until those picks become NHL regulars. 5 years would have been great to be a sure bet playoff / Stanley Cup contending team but it looks more like 6 years now based on those draft positions. Yzerman's 1st round picks (year one and year 2) Raymond and Seider are really good players. Give me players from those drafts that would have been better picks. The jury is out on Edvinsson, Kasper and this years draft so be patient. Yzerman didn't have much to work with once Kenny left with the exception of Larkin, Mantha, Bertuzzi, Green and Hornek. With the exception of Larkin all 4 were dealt for players (Vrana) and eventually drafts picks that they are developing. How quickly we forgot how bad that team was not to mention the lengthy bad draft picks he inherited (Zadina, Svechniokov, Cholwoksi etc.) The only pick of value is Rasmussen and look how long it took him to bring a bottom six value to this team.
