i do not like this pick at #5. I cannot understand how they could not trade down and get more assets from Philadelphia.

Leonard or Sandin Pellikka (if getting a defenseman was so vital) would have been "fine" too. Taking a guy projected to be Shea Theodore or Ryan McDonagh at #5 just does not sit right with me. Poor asset management (on top of the Newhook trade, especially after seeing what Colorado did with that pick #37).

I had all sorts of faith in Hughes and Gorton up until the last few days.

Then that is very bad work by Hughes and Gorton. It was well known that Michkov could have gone at #5. The Habs team HAD TO convince Philadelphia that they were going there (even if they were not) and get SOMETHING from the Flyers (even pick #7 and a couple of second round picks would be better than this).

We'll see. Seider looked alot better and was less of a gamble in a less forward heavy draft.

Draft Michkov (or trade and get additional assets), suck next year and get one of the many defensemen available in that draft. It seems that they went for organizational need and not best player available, while not looking at what they can do in the next 2 drafts on the defensive end.
