Description
The market for a young center would cost a ton. Miller fits the CBJ window and they acquire a top player without parting with picks. Van fills somes needs but Roslovic doesn't want to be in Canada so he's moved along for Kuz X2 in Vancouver.

Without retention on Miller it is a no go. That contract at a price of 8 mil per is just far too risky. Plus, judging by the Canucks buying out OEL, they are likely wanting to keep Miller and build around this team in hopes of keeping Petterson. I actually think Van may move their 1st if they could get a package that helps them address these areas of need.

Miller is a terrible contract. Not enough? Terrible take. The truth is they can’t move him without retention which they do not want to do.

The contract would look much better at a 5 year term, no doubt. But deeming it ‘a terrible contract’ is inaccurate. Miller drives play and plays in all situations at a pt/ game. He’s also a plus skater, with bite and not afraid to shed the mitts. JT Miller is not what is wrong with the Canucks.

Miller's contract is what the market would have paid. The retention take on Miller is overplayed on this site. I agree they likely keep him because he's been a very good player in Van, but not necessarily to keep Petey. His agent already said he's happy in Van. I won't be surprised to see a contract extension this offseason somewhere between 8x10-11M.

Pearsons career is probably over.

Miller is worth way more to the canucks vs cbj players

bear is a 7/8 dman at 2.2m it is an overpayment plus he's out until atleast jan 1st 2024

Lol

Allvin said Pearson will be at camp.

Agreed Miller is worth more but these are young pieces Allvin seeks vs picks.

Bear is insurance and depth. Agreed 2.2m is probably too much but keeps the asset.

Not really. Miller is a classic regression candidate if I ever saw one. There is no way Miller is worth 8 mil per til he is 37. He will likely have 2-3 good years before he starts tailing off. No team is going to give up assets for a contract that will tie up that much cap space.

Never said he was. All I am saying is the Canucks chose to ride and die by him. This season is a show me season for Petterson. I don’t see him signing an extension until he sees how this upcoming season plays out. He would be a fool to sign long term right now when the cap is going up the next two offseasons where he could cash in via offer sheet or UFA.

I suppose if you paint the picture that way. But two good players for one who is better compared directly to them 1:1 , isn't terrible. Forward group set minus any Mantha move considerations (+ McMichael and maybe Sheary depth).

Should’ve suckered the pens into taking Miller last trade deadline when you had the chance

Someone cut Hextall's corporate phone before giving up two firsts.

i like garland a lot and he would be great in washington as a middle 6 winger but roslovic is terrible. literally all of the worst parts of kuzy without any of the production. more important for the caps to have one star than multiple depth pieces anyways.

For sure, I wanted to upgrade him with Kuz. Garland was the sacrifice lol
