Pens easily decline. If you're offering a 4th line forward and 6th d man to dump Granlund. Pens will just buy him out for $833K toward the cap this season. Bad trade offer.

Always reject the first offer, I like your style. How about now?

Not quite the same level of prospect, but I feel you. How about the offer now?

You have also easily decided to ignore the 1.833M in the following 3 years starting in 2024. Its not 800k. That is only this season. 2M dead cap each season in the cup window isnt agreeable.

Its a more than reasonable deal when Theathletic mock draft is trading the same 14 overall pick for the 31st pick. 2 2nds and a 3rd plus two useful pieces, You'd be a really bad manager not get rid of that dead cap at that price.

I honestly think the Habs getting the 14ov for the 31, 37 and 3rd 2024 was a fair scenario to begin with. I actually think Granlund still has something to offer but he has to be put in the right circumstance. MTL IMO is that right spot.

Id gladly do

Granlund + 14ov
For
Hoffman + 31ov+37ov

Habs move up and get a player who i think can rebound with MTL. Pitt gets the cheaper buyout player if they choose to do so and the two picks that theyd want for the 14ov.

PIT could easily send Granlund and the 14th overall to a rebuilding team like Arizona and get back a quality player like Schmaltz or Moser. Getting back spare parts is a stupid trade for them.

Cap is going also going up to offset the buyout, if they go that way. Even so, the 14th overall isn't worth it. The juice ain't worth the squeeze...

Arizona would likely decline if it involves taking any cap back. The only cap they’ll take on is if they don’t have to trade any asset unless if they are LTIRetired players

They would be gaining real money with Schmaltz leaving and a future asset. And I'm merely presenting an example of what would be a palatable for Dubas. This deal is brain dead.

It’s completely understandable to believe Ari would take cap back to make trades work. But they didn’t want to take on anyone when it came to Chychrun. Which is stupid cause they can easily gain more draft capital
