Just my opinion as an Oiler fan, but dumping a second for a guy that you can buyout for 2.6M is ridiculous no?

Apparently if Chicago fans were the GM, it would take two 2nds and nothing would be coming back for the apparently awful Yamamoto

Moving a late 2nd for an early 3rd! It’s a small token to save money and Oilers need every penny!

Chicago fans have really gotten greedy since they got Bedard.

and you have over paid on Rayn McLeod 1 year deal at 1,250000 at the max and Warren Foegele will be traded and they will have to threw in Philip Broberg, will be in the deal with Foegele . because Philip Broberg hasn't showed as well as i thought he would so big Markus Niemeläinen, will be the seventh Dman and the odds are good that Cody Ceci, will be traded too

They do need every penny but a 2nd is steep when draft picks are your currency to make necessary trades.

But you’re talking moving what 10 spots in the draft.

CHI fan here. I don't think Bedard has much to do with it. It's more that Bettman indicated the cap wasn't going up more than $1M and Capfriendly. There aren't too many teams willing to take on dumps. We see posted from EDM, WAS, PIT, VAN, CGY, TBL, TOR, DAL, LVK, BOS, NJD NYR, NYI, etc... sending cap dumps to CHI. So we know there's plenty of teams wanting to dump cap. But there's probably only 3.5 teams willing to take on real dumps. CHI, ANA, DET, and depending on salary owed AZ. So that's ~15 teams looking to shed, but ~4 teams willing to accept.

Nothing is stopping EDM from buying out Yamamoto just like VAN did OEL. I believe he has a very reasonable buyout. But then again...10 spots in any draft that far back isn't much to give up either.

A little egregious although dumping cap does cost. Yam won't cost (2) 2nds though may be deemed to cost more than 11 spots in that region. Not a bad outcome if this is the result however as CHI may be able to deal him at the TDL.

The argument is that we won't pay for an underperforming, overpaid, injury prone, and undersized forward, just for the privilege of helping EDM with their cap problems. If EDM needs to move out cap, they will have to pay for it. No one EVER said it would take two 2nd round picks. And this mentality from CHI has been the same for over a year, since the tear down rebuild was announced and began, it has nothing to do with greed or winning the draft lottery and being able to draft Bedard.

I think you are seeing sour reactions from chicago fans who are seeing Yam’s to chicago for like a 3-5th round pick (coming from chicago to edm) the point is that chicago wouldn’t want to pay to acquire him. As for the trade in this post I think it’s perfectly fine although I definitely would prefer both the 2nd and 3rd round picks to be in 2024 or 2025 (that chicago pick has a condition so maybe not 2025) instead of 2023 picks where we have a lot of 2nd rounders.

Like my fellow hawks fan @exo2769 was saying there’s a lot of teams who want to dump cap and a limited amount willing to take on cap regardless of real money value. I don’t believe our having won the first pick is affecting how we view cap dump trade except for maybe the higher end cap dumps who could theoretically play with and mentor Bedard. Getting a prospect like Bedard does put a bit of pep in our step though.
