Description
Get Karlsson back to Ottawa. Improve the LD + RD Balance on the team.

We can now rock a top 4 of:

Chychrun- Zub
Sanderson - Karlsson

Cash is even for both teams, and SJ nets two additional prospects and a 2024 second for their trouble.

I'm not a fan of either team but, from an outsider's POV, Chabot's value > Karlsson's value. And I honestly don't think it's all that close, either.

SJS still has 2 more seasons of retention from the Burns trade. I don't see them retaining on Karlsson for the next 4 seasons.

I don't think this makes sense for Ottawa. Giving up too much. Chabot should not be traded.

Grier did say he would retain 18%. Basically 2M. I don't see them getting any value for him without retention. I know lots of Sharks fans think they are getting a haul for him but I doubt it. Sharks fans where insulted when I sent two firsts for Karlsson the other day lol

The problem is that he has had one good season in the last four. And the risk for injury with him is extreme. Expecting a team to pay a trade value like he has had four straight Norris caliber seasons is insane. And at his cap hit he needs to be a Norris contender every year to be fair value. Plus with a full no movement clause, finding a fit will be hard. I would expect something like what Chychrun got back in addition to a bad contract or two to offset the money.

I really don't know if I can word that better but I'll try. Grier, Sharks GM, stated he would retain 18% on Karlsson's contract, which is $2,070,000. Sharks fans believe they are getting a ridiculous haul of picks or prospects for him but I doubt that happens. Stating that his full NMC, cap hit and desire at his position would affect the number of teams interested.

Yeah totally agree. How many teams have a need, have the cap and would he be willing to waive to?

Teams that I think should be inquiring are Boston Pittsburgh Washington Tampa Vegas Toronto and Edmonton. The first four are at the end of their competitive window and can take the extreme risk. The other three are right in the competitive window where it might put them over the top. Younger teams with a wide open window like LA Carolina Ottawa Buffalo Jersey etc should never consider him as he's more risk than reward to them. Reality is he could have one more good season in him and be a liability the next three.

on the aforementioned teams only Washington would risk a deal. Maybe Kuznetsoz vs Karlsson and picks players swap, but all the other are cap straped or too close to try any deal.

Kuznetsov wouldn't fit. San Jose isn't going to want him and Washington would need him if they actually want to contend with Karlsson. Okay then what teams do you think should be interested in him? Because every single contender is cap limited and he already said he wants to go to a potential contender.

If Detroit made a push they could not they would still just be a fringe playoff team. They have a bed, the cap hit it doesn't make sense to part with alot of assets and risking that big contract.

Nah, I disagree entirely. Factoring in age, contract, and the (likely) outlier of the season he just had, there's not a world in which I'd trade Chabot for Karlsson 1-for-1- especially not as a team in OTT's position. I can see maybe a 4 team market for him in Carolina (move on from Burns first), Dallas (a trade around Seguin?), Seattle (if they really want to push), and Buffalo (if they decide to lean even more into offense). Techincally Detroit seems viable but I don't think they're at that point yet. All the other contenders are either in cap hell and/or have a significant and offensively-talented RD already in-place.

I agree in terms of where Karlsson can go unless sharks get creative with retention or what not, Florida has been in a buncha rumors again but I can't see it. For the remainder of Karlsson's contract I would bet (like 5$) that he out performs chatbot relative to their cap hits (assuming Karlsson w/retention is anywhere from 7.5-9.5). I am expecting regression, but I still think Karlsson will be a ppg+ player given he finds a move to another team, plays with a d-core and a goalie that can cover for him in ways the sharks couldn't. Even with his "bad defense" he was still one of the only players on the sharks with a net positive influence on the game and that was playing infront of the worst goalie tandem in the league. Not to mention he seems to be getting healthier.

Well, that's not a ridiculous position for you to hold. Agree to disagree then smile Still think it's unreasonable to ask for Chabot++, though
