The Karlsson Trade is what the Oilers are willing to pay, not so much what the ask might be. I'd be shocked if Erik Karlsson isn't using his full NMC to control his destiny. I'd say a list of 5-7 teams that would be legit options for him, although by the sounds of it, all of them, like the oilers are capped out. Imo Mike Grier is gonna regret not trading him at the Trade Deadline. Anaheim is not going to be good for at least 2-3 years so for them to expedite it, and use their low low cap floor to get better sooner, via another first round pick, via taking on 4.25 million in dead cap, plus getting a winger with a lot of upside just having a higher AAV who might I add is a former first round pick. Anaheim also checked in with Edmonton about Yamamoto at the trade deadline, so this makes that happen. The Sharks load is lower because of their lower retention. They still get a 1st, 2nd, two thirds equivalent in form of two prospects and two picks, which is what the oilers are willing to pay like I said.
The Detroit deal is for teams wanting to add a bit of cheaper contracts with some players that have a lot of upside and most importantly their contracts being multi-year still. I think the value for both Foegele is a 2nd round pick, and furthermore, I think Ceci is worth a 2nd, and 3rd. Detroit has an extra first both of the next two drafts, and said they would be open to moving one if they upgraded their defense, and frankly for a 1st and 4th for both I think it's fair value and with their abundance of picks I think being able to just trade that 1st next year from Boston, which probably isn't a high pick, and then getting an extra 4th, which is from Minni this year, just gives the oilers something to draft this year. I think this pick is 117 which is not that high to begin with.
I traded Skyler Brind'Amour's rights to Carolina because rumor has it places like Pittsburgh and other organizations are making offers already, as I do believe the oilers have given him permission to talk to other teams. This just is a maybe they do it maybe they don't trade just to see if Carolina can make him an offer and try and get him as I know he is very expected to sign with them, and not risk loosing him to the likes of the penguins or someone.
Toews would get a $2 million dollar bonus, hence the low AAV.
Connor Brown get's Janmark's money. Pretty simple signing there.
Evan Bouchard everyone thinks is high but honestly I think this is done at the draft and the oilers give in a bit to make sure no offer sheet is signed with him.
Ryan MacLeod finally gets paid after taking one for the team last year. 2 Million is fair.
Klim gets a million bucks. Well earned!
Hollywood comes up to the big leagues for good, as well as our best defensive prospect from Sweden, Broberg who probably gets lots of mentorship from Karlsson now.
Calvin de Haan I think is our Ryan Murray for the year but if not totally okay, this is just my random why not signing. Beefs up Bakersfield a bit.
I can appreciate the thought process but unfortunately it is very far one sided.
Foegele at a maximum is a 2nd at the TDL (assuming he improves) and is not multi year. His departure from the team is more of a benefit to EDM than his arrival in DET. Add in the fact the trade stems from a contender, meaning the value he offers isn’t good enough for a contending team, there is less than zero incentive.
Ceci is in no way worth a 2nd. To Detroit he is nothing more than exchanging a draft prick for overpaying a UFA. The Wings aren’t competing for a cup by the end of his contact. Paying for him means having 2-3 less years of a 4M bottom pair D (Chiarot).
At the end of the day, the Oil need a better W than Foegele and better D than Ceci, otherwise they would be with them next year for another legitimate chance at a cup (I lost 100 betting the oilers to win it all last summer). Their cap being gone is more of a benefit, and Detroit won’t be aiding them in a cup next season unless incentivized. To other teams they hold value, to the Wings, flip the picks and it’s closer.
SJ is not going to trade Karlsson for that little return. Doesn't matter if you think that is the max EDM would pay, they'll just keep him if that is the best offer on the market.
Sorry but way over estimate of what Foegele and Ceci are worth. They are what are called need to get rid of players and no one is going to pay to take them on, and more no one is giving up a 1st to take them on.
