Obviously vancouver shouldn’t even think about this deal, parayko is nothing more than an overpaid offensive black hole with below average defensive numbers.

OK and I'd still rather have the black hole than Garland. Parayko plays some of the hardest minutes in the nhl with Leddy as his partner. Simply put him in a 2nd pairing role and he will do fine. He never was a 1st pair defensemen and the blues tried to make him that after Pietrangelo left. Put him back into his old role and he will do fine. Apparently the rumors are the Canucks are trying to get rid of Garland but not many teams are willing to take him at his salary

That’s exactly why the trade doesn’t make sense. Vancouver would be moving assets as if he is a capable top pairing defenseman, when that has proven to not be the case. After the OEL buyout, garland no longer has any reason to be a negative asset. He drives play 5 on 5 and puts up very respectable offensive numbers despite very limited powerplay time.

I’d like to think that I know a little bit about hockey. When asked to play competitive minutes, Parayko crumbles. He has pretty much every year since Pietrangelo left. Parayko is a mid second pairing defenseman

I mean it depends. For example, Parayko would be Vancouver’s third best defenseman behind Hughes and Hronek, and I can only name a handful of worse D-corps in the league atm.
