Hard decline from Detroit. You can have the 17th overall or Berggren. Not both.

DeBrincat will fetch more than just the 17th OA.

Ottawa can fetch it somehwere else. We'll sign DeBrincat when he hits the UFA market next summer and lose no assets.

1. Wings fans won't like this. Change the 1st for their 2nd : Berggren + 2nd + 3rd

2. Crouse would be a good add but Ottawa needs to stop trading 1st round picks. Berggren and Greig need to be in the top-9 so no need for Crouse that much (Laughton even less)

Tkachuk - Stutzle - Giroux
Berggren - Norris - Batherson
Greig - Pinto - Joseph

Could simply use the AAV saved on DeBrincat to Berggren to upgrade Joseph (UFA?) and move him to the 4th line so you'd have 4 strong lines (Crookshank - Kastelic - Joseph)

3. I'm not doing that Philly trade. I am not trading Greig at all actually. Adding Brannstrom and the 17th OA pick makes it very unattractive for Ottawa

Partially.
Although I personally wouldn't want to trade Berggren; DeBrincat is a near-direct upgrade.

A DeBrincat trade itself isn't what I'd want; I'm a tinfoil hat guy for the Michkov-Honzek trade up.
But, with my luck, we probably draft Honzek at 9 and do a DeBrincat trade using 17.

Berggren + 2nd + 3rd would be an awful trade. Other teams would offer more for DeBrincat.

Nah, he'll refuse that because he has the right to do so. Other teams will not overpay Ottawa when they know he has a past history of refusing to sign long term with teams. Both Chicago and Ottawa. He'll sign his 1 year 9 mil QO. Sens trade him at the deadline as a rental to a contender at 50% retained where they pry out a 1st and a prospect and then after the 2024 playoffs, he hits the open market and goes home to play for the team he grew up loving as a child.

Ottawa couldn't even get a 1st for Mark Stone when he was due for his big pay raise. How's Erik Brannstrom sitting for you after watching Stone lift the cup?

He'll be traded before the draft on a long term extension.

They just filed for club elected arbitration. Indicates trade talks are poor quality offers. Extension with Ottawa is non existent.

Ottawa should have kept the 7th overall. They’d have a solid prospect coming up next season on an entry level deal. Instead they have this mess.

They filed because they had to before the deadline. Arbitration isn't until August. They have lots of time to move him beforehand.

Honestly I don't see us trading Berggren and trading Berggren for Debrincat doesn't make a bunch of sense if it costs this much to do so. It's not unreasonable to expect him to score 25 goals next season. He scored 15 in 67 games averaging 13.5 minutes a night. Full season, better line mates (we were running half our AHL team the last third of the season cause of injuries), plus more time on ice should allow him to blossom. Even if Debrincat scores 30 it's not that much more production and we just keep our assets.

Erik Brannstrom is coming into his own, he was excellent this season.

Doesn't mean that the trade wasn't bad or that the whole situation was well managed. I mean, it's Pierre Dorion

So if he is allowed to make the DeBrincat trade.... then anything is possible but we can't assume anything here, we are talking hypothetically and try to assess market value.

Maybe you're underrating Berggren?

We won't get 7th OA + 2nd + 3rd value back

Since that 7th OA was in a weak draft and that ADB value has diminished a bit, getting Berggren is not that bad

I mean, I'm up for it if we can get more but far from guaranteed

Brannstrom has played good but not nearly good enough to justify giving up Mark Stone for him as the main piece returning. That trade was a grand slam home run for Vegas and at best a double base hit for Ottawa.

Of course lol... but Pierre Dorion incompetency has nothing to do with Brannstrom now. Dorion destroyed his hand with that 1 year extension leading to UFA and had to take the best return he could for Mark Stone who didn't want to sign an extension with a lot of teams... What he said in the medias raving up about Brannstrom was to save face.

Some people got fooled by what he said in the medias and still have a biased view of Brannstrom because of Dorion's fiasco #33 but Brannstrom has been developing really well and is becoming very good quality

I guess I'll start spreading some info on Brannstrom

1687090656435-png.718991

It doesn't mean that he can be a top pairing D-man next season but he vastly outplayed his role on the team. When Chabot was injured the last 2 seasons, he looked pretty damn good filling the void and playing a lot of minutes. The guy is severely underrated
