You didn't sell high on Montour, you sold low.

And guess who traded Montour to Florida?

These are all pretty bad trades for Florida

Montour seemed happy in Buffalo until he suffered like many under Krueger - he'd love the wide-open system under Granato. I'm not sure though that he'd fit with the Sabres' roster or needs - with Dahlin and Power anchoring the two power play units, Montour wouldn't be the main guy there like in Florida. He also isn't much better at defending than he was during his first stint - which would be an issue, if Buffalo wanted to pair him with Power and allow Power to roam more offensively.

Some reunions aren't meant to be.....

there's absolutely no way that a second round pick gets you boqvist. he's only moving if we're getting a center back.

the only way boqvist to florida makes sense is if we get back either luostarinen or an extended reinhart.

that said: andrew peeke would be a good gudas replacement for florida, has term/is cheaper, and is a south florida native. would make a lot of sense as well.

If an extension can be worked out with Reinhart, no we don’t.

Yes, we absolutely decline.

1) Hartman costs $3M less, already knows the system and lockerroom, and is a similar enough caliber of player that the distinction of contract matters.

Pass on Reinhart, extend Hartman instead.

Reinhart will want to get paid, while we already know Hartman is willing to take a paycut to stay with the team. Even if he take a large pay raise to resign, Hartman will still be cheaper to bring back then Reinhart would.

2) The assets being given up is way too much for a player like Reinhart when we already have Hartman. Especially when we're just sending them a cheaper version of Reinhart in the same trade.

Absolute insanity to call Reinhart and Hartman the same player. If Hartman isn’t stapled next to Kaprizov he’s a 30 point guy.

Hartman at 1C is a problem. He’s just not good enough. He should be 3RW and would be on a legit contender.

No... I never once intoned they were the same player. I SAID they were of similar CALIBER. There's a important distinction there.

I'm calling two middle-six 2nd line centers.... MIDDLE SIX 2ND LINE CENTERS.

Reinhart was productive only when he was with Eichel in Buffalo or whenever he was with Barkov, both of which on the wing. Thinking he's a 1C is as foolish as thinking he'd automatically be better in that spot than Hartman is. Guess where Reinhart played during these Stanley cup run this year? 3rd line. Guess which position? Right Wing.

Victor Rask with Kaprizov was made to look like something too. He still didn't get past the 50 point mark.

Whether you agree or not, if Hartman were what you think he is, then he never cracks 60 points in a single season. Kaprizov or no Kaprizov.

My singular point isn't even a matter of talent. Which is secondary to the discussion at hand. I am saying that Hartman comes in cheaper, by several Million, on a new contract for a similar level of play as Reinhart. Why then do we waste assets to acquire a player who ISN'T better than Hartman, including Hartman, who is going to cost more and only give us at or near the same level of production.

Short Answer is, it doesn't.

CGY accepts, and you're going to enjoy Z. He's a bit of a rollercoaster on the 2nd pairing though. Also, he didn't play RD in a very long time.

Those are some rose colored glasses you have for Hartman. You implying that he is a similar caliber to Reinhart is laugh worthy. You also implying that Reinhart is a product of Eichel/Barkov is verifiably false. Reinhart had less than 150 minutes 5v5 with Barkov in 21-22 and less than 450 minutes 5v5 with Barkov this year. Neither one of those numbers represents even 50% of his 5v5 ice time. Only two of his six seasons with Buffalo did Reinhart spend more than 50% of his 5v5 ice time with Eichel.

Hartman's career high prior to being on a line with Kaprizov was 31 points. Reinhart has never been lower than 40 points and he played for some absolutely dreadful Buffalo teams.

Last season, Reinhart put up more points than Hartman's career high. The year before that he was a point per game player, something Hartman will NEVER achieve.

Hartman constantly takes stupid penalties. 90 PIM in 59 games. Reinhart had 12 PIM in a full 82 games.

Reinhart is younger.

Reinhart has more size.

I never once said Reinhart was a center. I'd take him at wing any day. He's just better than Hartman. Hartman constantly hinders this team.

If Hartman was actually similar in play, then he would get a similar contract to Reinhart. Both their contracts end after this season.
