Détails additionnels:
Leafs fans, Matt Murray is not going to be on LTIR. He is only 29 and will continue to play hockey. If you want to buy him out then enjoy that 2 million dollar cap hit on year 2 of the buyout. That won't make signing Matthews very easy and build a contending team with 4 solid lines.

Cal Peterson took a haul to dump, so I think that set the goalie cap dump market for the summer.

We are also taking Muzzin for IR to get to the floor, while leafs get rid of all LTIR contracts.

Your are not getting a first for Murray/Muzzin

Leafs have all $ in world to pay out Muzzin's contract on LTIR

A Murray buyout costs almost nothing this year, and only $2m next year when cap is going up $3-$6M. No problem there.

They probably end up dumping Murray but it wont be for a first.

If Moore is available at 14OA, I would despise the Pens trading down instead of drafting him.
And I don't think Dubas would trade down if he's available. He and Sullivan are putting emphasis on speed, and Moore is one of the fastest guys in the class.

Issue with Mitchell is that he does nothing for the Canes. They need pieces that will help now. Carolina has one of the deepest prospect pools in hockey, with a lot of players capable of playing that depth role Mitchell will.

28th pick to 67 is only moving down one round basically.

Also no way in hell is the cap going up 3-6 million. That was never reported and if it was to go up it would be 1 million each year. Even at that there are reports that the cap may actually not go up at all this year.

So you really wont to take on a 2 million dollar cap hit instead of moving back a round?

understandable. The thing is is that your pool is deep in all positions, so no matter what you get it won't be that beneficial unless its a future pick, but I don't think a pick will be traded for Drury

Let me think about that Toronto deal. Um, no

2 mill buyout is fine not year as cap goes up and Matthews will be fine to sign. Especially with Knies/Minten/2023 pick/Voit coming up to play for Toronto. There's a reason why they brought Doan in; for Matthews and bc he's their new GM once Treliving retires/gets fired/leaves for another job

There's a chance that the cap doesn't go up. Also contenders have to sacrifice futures to win. It's the price of winning. Especially since the leafs need to make big moves and their win window is closing.

Also you really think that just because Doan played in Arizona and Matthews is from Arizona means that he's gonna stay in Toronto?? In the end I don't think he really cares about that and would take money over that any day

0 chance it takes a first to unload Murray. It is one year at 4.5 a lot of taking teams that needed to be at the floor like the Coyotes that will happily take on his contract for a mid pick. Cal took a haul to dump because it was more years and more money. The Leafs paid less then this to dump multiple years of Mrazek .

Man you said it so confidently too - cap is absolutley not going up $1m a year after next.

Also "moving down a round" is a very dumb argument. Moving from 1st overall to 32nd is a lot different from moving from a 6th to a 7th.
In this case moving from a late first to an early third is a pretty large drop off in value.

I disagree, this assumes Drury will be traded on his own. Remember, Drury has had this trade request for over a year, and it's not been done before now because they wanted to get him into the NHL full time, which they did this season. He's still a valuable and they could use him in a package to get something that helps the roster right now

ok so lets say it does end up going up 6 million or something around that range. Matthews is asking for 15 million at least.
Enjoy paying an overatted player who hasnt won any team awards 15+ million

You realize those futures could play a key role in the playoffs, especially considering ELC is very cheap. Think of Knies this year/Minten next year/2 years. You need guys on those cheap contract that provide a lot because that allows you to sign better players.

Just going to slide this in here: https://twitter.com/BarDown/status/1666945235002294275?cxt=HHwWhoC8hYD3lqIuAAAA

Bud - you did a great job in an earlier post providing detailed analysis on theoretical cost of buyouts , yet you forgot to google that the cap is taking a massive jump year after next? 😕
And then you claim Matthews wants $15M? Based on what info?
Sh$t really went south there once your error was pointed out 🤷🏻

And they only moved back 10 spots to dump a worse contract in Mrazek. Murray for the #1 pick makes more sense then this deal
