Description
As far as I'm concerned, Pierre-Luc Dubois QUIT on Columbus and their fans.

Now he has QUIT on Winnipeg and their fans. He's put them in a pretty crappy position. Rather than sucking it up as a professional, playing another season and becoming a UFA as specified in the CBA, he has refused to sign with the team who owns his rights. I feel bad for Jets fans.

And yes, he wants his next contract to pay him around $9M per year and will only accept a trade to select teams of his choice. Really, who does this guy think he is?

PLD was playing with some pretty talented linemates in WIN. Yet he hasn't managed to become a PPG player.

In MTL, he will play alongside lesser-talented (but hopefully improving) forwards. He will see his points totals decline.

In the pressure cooker of Montreal, at $9M per year long term contract with declining points totals, how long will it take before fans turn against him? French Canadian fans can be particularly harsh against their own; see Patrice Brisebois and Jo Drouin. How long before the dream becomes a nightmare. And most importantly, how long until Pierre-Luc Dubois QUITS on the Montreal Canadiens and their fans?

Be careful what you wish for.

He’s a textbook diva. I hope WPG doesn’t bend and he is forced to sit out.

As a jets fan, I agree with some of what you said. However, your overall conclusion makes sense.

Dubois simply told the jets that Dubois won’t sign long term. This is a good thing for the jets in my opinion. They weren’t going to keep him anyway and him and his agent being willing to help with trade discussions is beneficial to both sizes and announcing a trade request will help chevy’s phone ring.

Matthew Tkachuk did it last year. Debrincat this year. Trouba in the past. It’s happened before, just becoming more common. While some might think it’s a bad move, Dubois doesn’t seem like a guy who likes a small market and he knows what he wants. Columbus and Winnipeg aren’t great destinations for what he’s looking for (the high fashion and lifestyle big cities have). He’s been an RFA for 6 years now, and he’s excercisnf his rights to go to UFA next year. But he’s also being considerate in working with the jets for a sign and trade to happen. Best case for both parties.

I didn’t hear thr 9M but I don’t doubt it. I think he’s closer to 8.5 but he’ll get 9 if he wants it and is flexible with his destinations.

Yes, he had Connor on his wing for most of his time, but Dubois is no slouch of a player. He’s worth 8.5M per year and he won’t regress offensively and brings a lot to the game aside from points. If he’s engaged, he’s the most impactful guy on the ice, on a pretty star studded team in Winnipeg.

I don’t think MTL fans will sour on him. They haven’t soured on Anderson and Dubois is a better version of him…and he plays c.

I think if MTL gets the chance, they should make a bid for him. His type of players are rare in the nhl. Big powerforward instigators are a rarity, with tkachuk and Dubois being the best at it. And look at what tkachuck has done for the panthers (though more offensive skill there)

Paul Maurice said : I never thought I'd be in the league again because this city this team killed my will to be a coach in NHL. Trouba and Laine leaved too. Columbus also had room troubles. Don't get me wrong Dubois is not an angel, but for me the red flags are about those two teams who are with Chicago before their blowup the worst team chemistry in the league.

When negotiating, you always ask for more than you'll expect to get. PLD won't get 9M but if he wants 7.5-8.5M, you ask for more and "settle" for less. I think we all agree 8M in todays NHL is his minimum. Throw in the fact that if he signing in Canada, he'll get slightly more due to taxation. So lets say 8.5M. I take that any day of the week. He's a good player that actually wants to play here. Habs can't afford to say no to that. Obviously if the price is right of course.

Also Its funny, we're allowed to quit and find a new employment at a drop of a hat but PLD is apparently forced to live and play where he doesn't want to and he's at fault for not wanting to? We need to get over this idea of players quitting on teams. Guys had to play for Torts, a notoriously hated coach, and then gets sent to the Peg. Not exactly a destination most NHL players want to go to. Not to mention the leadership core their was apparently somewhat toxic.

Just remember Adam Fox didn't even give his 2 first teams a single chance before demanding where he wanted to go and we all don't bat an eye. PLD gave both teams he played for a chance. Both were bad situations that he still gave a chance to. That's not quitting, that's finding out what they're about and not liking it. I don't blame him and would do the exact same thing. Screw loyalty to a job you don't want to be at anymore.
