Marner to Detroit

Créé par: TMLBRIAN

Description
Matthews extends 12m x 8 years
Nylander extends 8.5m x 8 years

this is my first time playing with a Marner to Detroit trade. I can definitely see the fit with Debricat. Does Marner also work though? Or does the timeline not add up?

I think the package is more than fair for both teams but I can see why the timing doesnt make sense for Detroit.

Thoughts?

The thought with the Debricat trade is that he would be open to signing long term in Det. There is no such thought with Marner thus no reason to give up anywhere near that type of haul that the Leafs would ask for in a trade. Timeline wise it's a fine idea, but it's not worth the assets if not here for the long term. Personally, I am against the Debricat trade to begin with unless its cheap, otherwise I believe in stay the course and don't rush the rebuild.

A team that has been good for a while and needs a push might take a risk like this, but the wings first need to establish their core then add or add without blowing apart the depth they have.

I can't argue with this. Although a Bergrenn + New york 1st + 3rd for Debrincat makes sense to me - if he extends 8 years. He fits in with the core age group quite nicely.

Ottawa would not get Berggren from Detroit in a DeBrincat trade. Most they’d get is the NYI 1st and a 2nd. Sens are not getting back what they paid, let alone getting more.

As far as Marner, if there’s an assurance of an extension, Wings would be interested but I think they send someone besides Berggren. Maybe something like the 1st, 2 2nds, and Zadina with a 4th or lower prospect.

The package I proposed would have less value than what Ottawa paid. Ottawa gave up the 7th overall pick last year, an early 2nd and a 3rd. This is the 17th overall, Bergrenn and a 3rd. The value between 7th to 17th overall is substantial. Potentially remove the 3rd but that would be my ask from Ottawa.

Leafs pass in that scenario as well. They would need a promising prospect coming back (as would Ottawa). Berggren fits the mold perfectly.

Did a good job with tge signings but the biggest problem with this ACGM is that it's based on this:

Matthews extends 12m x 8 years
Nylander extends 8.5m x 8 years

Don't think you'll have enough money for extensions as Matthews will want to be the highest paid player and Nylander probably will want at least 9.5M if not 10M in Toronto, and with Marner gone probably pushes for 11.25M to make him the 2nd highest paid player on the team.

If Matthews wants to actually be paid more than MacKinnon then he would need at least ~15M AAV, at that point he might as well look to top OVI 124M contract and ask for 15.625Mx8.

I think 13Mx5 and 9.5Mx8 are more realistic expectations for deas for the pair.

Marner + Matthews + Knies + Woll for Seider? [With the top two guys extended and retained?]

Think that's what it would take for Yzerman to even entertain your guys' bull****.

The difference in quality between the 2022 and 2023 draft is also substantial. A top 20 pick this year is a lot

Berggren is a former second rounder who is a full time NHLer who was on a 34 point pace as a rookie (ie worth more than a second as of now)

And a 3rd

Your offer is at very least on par cost wise with the sens trade last year. After the down year from Cat I wouldn't trade that package for him.

I would for Marner though if there's a good chance of a contract renewal, Marner is too good to pass up at the price in this post (again, assuming he shows willingness to re-sign)

Marner is the same age as Larkin so there are no timeline issues. Since most of the Detroit fans here accept this trade without even thinking about it, I think it's safe to say the return isn't enough.

As much as I absolutely love Marner - I personally wouldn’t do this trade. I’m not a fan of putting together top-heavy teams and having an $11m player is one step closer to cap hell. I think that’s the opposite of a philosophy that Yzerman operates under and frankly, me too.

In a normal draft yes but 17 this year is pretty close to 7 last year. Berggren is worth a high 2 as he’s already an NHL player, tore up the AHL and produced pretty decent points in limited ice time in the NHL. So your package you proposed for Cat is a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Ottawa isn’t getting back what they paid.

As for the Leafs idea, I don’t see Detroit trading Berggren. Maybe one of our many high end LD though.

Imagine thinking that 1)Seider is even available and 2) you’d be able to get him for a 1 year rental, no matter how good he is.

Berggren, in my opinion is easily worth a 1st round pick.

He was drafted 33 and he's definitely outplayed that draft position.

I’d agree but i was trying to be conservative on the value so leafs and sens fans didn’t get too cranky 😂
