Quoting: Conbon
Hanifin, Toffoli both expiring UFAs and Vladar as a 2.2m backup with rough stats the past 2 years doesn't command much value. This clears a ton of cap space for the Flames and they get the best, youngest roster player in the deal that fits exactly what they need. Add the 1st in and that's one of the better if not best offer they'll get. Maybe change the 3rd to something of more value along with Debrincat for balancing but I think the bones address needs all around.
Pinto instead of the 3rd too much?
So I assume we would be comparing it to the recent Tkachuk trade 1 year of Weegar is about equal to 1 year of Hanifin (Weegar is a bit better but Hanifin is younger) so they cancel each other out. Vladar is probably similar value to Cole Schwindt. Then the gap between 1 year of Toffoli and 1 year of Huberdeau as well as the 1sts that were involved.
I think it's safe to say Tkachuk is quite a bit better than DeBrincat. In term over overall impact there are very few wingers that are on the same level as Tkachuk. Marner, Pastrnak, Marchand, Kucherov, Marchand, Pavelski, Kaprizov, Rantanen, Huberdeau, Panarin, Gaudreau, Stamkos, and I guess Robertson and B. Tkachuk have entered that picture now (Kane used to be there). Basically superstar wingers. DeBrincat is at least another tier down from that with guys like Meier, Bratt, Kyrou, Nylander, Keller, Forsberg, Fiala, Reinhart, Toffoli, Benn, Necas, Buchnevich, Landeskog, Giroux, etc. 1st line caliber wingers.
I think your base of those players is close to fair but I think the picks have to be changed. If Calgary is sending back 2 of their top players then #16 is not being included. Next years of Florida's 1st in 2025 can be included instead (obviously depending on the results of the Monahan trade pick). I also wonder if Ottawa would have more interest in Tanev than Hanifin since they are kind of stacked on the right side. Also Calgary would only pay this much if DeBrincat is coming pre-signed for 8 years to lower his AAV
