The first trade makes sense, however, obviously Chicago isn't going to take Myers for free.

I really hope VAN doesn’t trade down, especially to just give away a decent player like Garland. The Myers deal is more likely to happen to some team if the Canucks add a later pick.

The only problem with Myers is the contract right? Like the dude is still a #4/5 dman. If his caphit was something in the $3-4m range he would actually get an asset back. So for a team like CHI or ARI or ANA they're acquiring someone that they can get real value for if they retain again. All in all, the team acquiring Myers here would actually be adding a caphit of 2.5m to their books for whatever they get for him (2nd/3rd round pick).

Yeah, but it's still doing Vancouver a favor

I mean CHI/ARI/ANA benefit too, its a win-win situation. That's usually how trades work. The team that needs to spend more cap to get to the floor is achieving that and also acquiring an asset (in exchange for Myers). Like Tyler Myers at 2.5m is something teams would pay for. He is a solid defender just not a $6m one.

I think the deal is combining both and dropping the 2nd to NYR 2nd for the Hawks to take the Meyers caphit after his bonus is paid. So #11, Garland, and a player to be named later (which is Myers after his bonus is paid) for #19, & #56. Hawks get a winger with some skill to play in their top 6, flip 2 picks into a better one, and have Myers they can rehab and retain on for a TDL flip. Nucks free up 10 million in cap (so they can actually add a significant piece in UFA or trade), move down 8 but still staying in the 1st and pick up a 2nd they don't have.

I thought you might be trying to say that, but wasn't sure. So we are then debating if the 2nd is the Tampa or NYR 2nd.....in other words not all that far off.

Also, that CHI doesnt need to be the team that the Myers trade happens with. Any of ARI/ANA/CHI would be good candidates for it.

If the Hawks and Nucks are doing the first deal, I think it makes sense to tweak the first one a little and just do it all with the same team. Myers even post bonus should cost something because 6 million cap is not a small thing to take. It's not a first or 2nd cause the real salary is only a million and he should be flipable at the TDL, but like a 3rd or 4th which is the tweak of a slightly worst 2nd.

Again, in this proposal, VAN is retaining 1m. So its only 5m in cap hit and 833k in actual Salary. This helps ARI/ANA/CHI too. If CHI doesn't do, it someone will. Myers isnt this immovable anchor that people think he is. If VAN is retaining on him, they do NOT need to pay someone to take him. The team that eventually acquires Myers will be doing that.

Personally, I dont hate this trade if theyre combined into one. Think it all depends on who is still on the board at 11 for the Nucks.

The cap floor is a non issue for Chicago, can't comment on Arizona or Anaheim. However, it's not common where one team helps another team out out with cap on a gamble they can flip a player for value for free. If the risk is on the acquiring team, which in this case it is, it's generally not for free from the other team.

In Chicago's case, Myers also blocks prospects from getting ice time so not a fan from that perspective either.

Let's just drop the 2nd from the first trade and drop the retention on Myers (not needed). And call it 11 for 19, Garland, and Myers. That's a steal for Vancouver to unload all that money.

The problem is, Garland is a good player so to think of him as just a cap dump isn't right.
