The Jets won't be looking for assorted garbage in a trade.

I can’t see why LA does that deal. They don’t get cap space and Allen isn’t much of an upgrade on Petersen

Flyers are gonna decline. They need picks and prospects, not mid 20s to early 30s players and cap dumps. The 1st being in two years might get a team to a bad contract. This deal just isn't what the Flyers need, so they will shop elsewhere.

Edit: outdated take. Flyers would go for it.

Eh I don’t think this trade is that bad.

Ha, Ha, No. Allen's cap hit is exactly the same as Petersen's if we send Cal to Ontario, so that's a lateral transfer and we're not paying a dime extra for it. Now on top of that you want us to give you a first-round draft pick AND take on half of Gallagher's contract, which is one of the five worst contracts in the NHL?!?!?

I don't think so.

It isn't the worst trade, let alone a bad one. I just don't know if its the right trade for what is needed. If this were to come through I wouldn't complain by any means.

And now that I think about it more, if some of this doesn't work out, the Flyers will have some decent pieces for deadline trades.

I feel like this is more of a retool trade then a rebuild trade, but in the end it could end up benefiting both parties.

Edit: Also seeing that they'd take Hayes's full contract makes me think that this trade is more fair then I credited it for. Flyers give it a go.

Petersen is buried, he will never play again in the NHL only in the minor league for the rest of his contract. If a team wants him, he will be available on waivers soon as possible after the trade is made. The trade is an arrangement for both teams. I guess but I could be wrong.

If Montreal adds a prospect in the trade maybe it will make more sense ? But I'm sure LA would rather pay a goaltender who can play in the NHL than another one who cannot. The $3 850 000, it's a pure loss for MTL but they could manage it with the LTIR salary cap of Carey Price.

There's a better chance that the five-years-younger Cal Petersen plays better next year than 33-year-old Jake Allen -- 3.55 GAA and 0.891 Save % is hardly "a goaltender who can play in the NHL" at any reasonable level. For the last two seasons, Allen has been below back-up standards. And his buyout in 2024 is actually a little bit worse than Petersen's.

Gallagher is a non-starter. End of story.

You convinced me. You made some very good points. This couldn't be a done deal just by the facts and the stats. Thanks !

lol. One year of Zaitsev, or taking half of the cap dumps MTL has to offer for next to nothing... Hmmmm.... I wonder what CHI does.
