Yeah, adding a 26 year old 99 point Selke finalist always makes your team weaker. One that would have led your team in scoring by 28 points in the regular season and led them in scoring in the playoffs too. You guys are terrific.

You're sounding like a real homer, with no consideration what Carolina gives up in the trade. A 24 years old, 28 goal scorer, 71 points who doesn't play with Matthews or Tavares. Plus the Canes are trading probably their top Dman. Then the Canes lose 5m in cap by making the trade. Canes also give more controllable years too.

Necas is a good player. He’s not Marner. Marner led the Leafs in scoring this year. More points than Matthews. He did it in the post season as well. He had 28 more points than Necas AND he’s a superior defensive player. Yeah, I’m a homer. Give your head a shake.

The craziest thing is that Palhal is a leaf fan. Never seen someone with so much hate for their favourite team. Last year he wanted to add Nylander as a sweetener to dump Mrazek’s contract.

Pesce isn’t even close to their best Dman

Necas put up 71 points primarily playing alongside KK. Marner put up 99 points playing alongside guys like Matthews and Tavares. For the sake of argument, if their roles were reversed, Marner would likely be having that 70ish point season whereas Necas would be having that 100ish point season. Frankly, considering Necas only had 28 fewer points than Marner, with the vast difference in the offensive talent in linemates, would it not be within reason to say that Marner had a disappointing season? I mean, he plays with the great Auston Matthews, and he only put up, what, 14 more points than him?

Now with the sarcasm out of the way, needless to say, it’s an easy pass for the Canes. The Canes aren’t going to mortgage their cap situation and their roster just to bring in a guy who put up a few more points playing with Matthews. Necas put up 3/4 of the offense that Marner put up, at about 1/4 of the cap hit.

OK, if not a homer, it's finding value in a trade. Necas, Pesce, plus 6m in spend on another player = 13m for Marner and two 1m players =. 13m players. Yeah, why would Carolina do that trade?

Yeah Marner is the best player in the trade...but Necas, Pesce and the 6m cap player the next three best players, followed by two 1m players.

Pesce is about to be paid. He’s a very good defenceman but not near a 26 year old 99 point Selke finalist. Marner was 1st team all-star at RW the last 2 seasons. He beat out Pasternak, Rantanen, Kucherov etc. None of those guys is getting dealt for Martin Necas and Pesce. It would be ridiculous to even talk about it. Pasternak went into the last months before UFA prior to signing his new deal, why is Marner in the bargain bin with 2 years remaining?

Leafs aren’t dealing him. It takes top, top players to win and Marner is one of those. Sometimes it takes top players a long time. Just like it took MacKinnon 9, Stamkos 12, and Ovi 13. Leafs need to add to the core, not subtract.
