Offseason 3

Description
Main goal is to have a slight youth movement, build through FA and keep our picks. A trade or two where we see players for players is fine to me however, I don't want to see the pens mortgage the future for one last run before the season even starts. If we are in a good spot come the deadline and we have a shot then sure but right now I wouldn't do it.

-- We take the L on Granlund and buy him out instead of spending assets to dump him. He only costs us 900k this season and 1.9 the following 3 which should not be an issue with the cap rising.

-- Buy out Carter or send him to the press box. IDC if we have 3mil less in cap space, Carter needs to be either a 13th foward or a UFA. He cannot be on this team full time anymore. He does more harm than good.

-- Jarry comes back on a short term prove it deal as he looks to put up a better showing than his 2022-23 campaign in order to secure his final chance at a big payday at age 30. I believe Jarry is the best available option in net as he's still young and I don't think it would be wise to trade for Gibson or Helly.

-- David Kampf comes in to Center the 4th line as he is very good on faceoffs, plays the PK and can chip in on offense.

Raanta comes in as the 1B to Jarry as options like Adin Hill or Andersen simply aren't realistic as both will be looking for a starters job in FA.

J.T Compher comes in on a big time contract to be the 3C we have needed for the last few years. Compher is a great TWF who can also play the PK and is a right shot center which is needed.

3.6 mil left in cap space for the deadline if we need to add a dmen, Goaltender or if Hoglander doesn't pan out.

  1. Ehlers, Nikolaj
  2. Stanley, Logan [Droits de RFA]
  3. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (WPG)
Détails additionnels:
with the Jets looking to re-tool, they move on from an recently injury prone winger and a Dman who has requested a trade.

Ehlers is a speedy, very skilled winger who would enhance our top 6 and would be a great Zucker replacement since he seems to be on his way out and it's probably what is best TBH.
Ehlers does come with some red flags as he has been pretty injury prone the 3 seasons which is cause for concern and in consequence, drops his value a bit.

Logan Stanley is a big DFD who has requested a trade out of Winnipeg as he has fallen out of favor under Bowness. Stanley would add size and grit to the left side of the defense and could pair very well with Petry. He is still young and has room to improve under a new system
WPG
  1. Murashov, Sergei [Liste de réserve]
  2. Pickering, Owen
  3. Puustinen, Valtteri
  4. Choix de 1e ronde en 2023 (PIT)
  5. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (PIT)
Détails additionnels:
#14 OA

Puustinen is an intriguing prospect as his potential isn't really known since Pittsburgh has never given him a real shot at the NHl for some reason. He has dominated the AHL for 2 years now and could be a good middle 6 scorer in the NHL.

Murashov is a young Goaltending prospect who dominated the MHL this past season and was solid in his lone KHL start. With the Penguins also having Joel Blomqvist in the pipeline, they can afford to move on from another promising goaltending prospect while the Jets could use one in their prospect pool.

Owen Pickering, now this is a piece that would sting a little to lose however i believe it is worth it in this scenario as the pens look to win 1 last cup for the core 3. What makes moving Pickering a tad easier is that on the left side, we already have Petterson, POJ, Ty Smith and Logan Stanley in this scenario who could block him long term.

Puustinen and Murashov for Stanley
Pickering, #14 and 2024 2nd for #18 and Ehlers
2.
PIT
  1. Höglander, Nils [Droits de RFA]
  2. Martin, Spencer
Détails additionnels:
With Nils Hoglander looking like he doesn't really have a spot in Vancouver and with Vancouver needing Center depth and a prospect down the middle, they come to familiar face for a prospect swap.

Hoglander is a young skilled winger who needs a shot at the NHL and could boost our 3rd line big time if he breaks through.

Spencer Martin is nothing but a 3rd goalie and a AHL vet for Blomqvist.
VAN
  1. DeSmith, Casey
  2. Poulin, Samuel
Détails additionnels:
With Vancouver needing a more reliable backup behind Demko as they look to compete for some reason (they should actually re-tool instead of being a weird tweaner like they are right now) they add a good backup who is just that a backup. Desmith will be able to take some pressure off Demko and be good in his starts, just don't expect him to be a starter for a stretch if demko goes down.

Sam Poulin is a JR pick who has translated well to center in the AHL However, he had a rough last season off the ice mentally and could also use a change of scenary as I don't really see him fitting in our future plans.

If Van were to move Hog, I think they'd want more incentive.

Ehlers isn't getting moved, Unless Winnipeg goes into a complete tear down. And that offer isn't getting him.

I think they'd only want to move him if they get a young D, preferably right shot, in a similar situation.

Ya for sure. Johansson Woo and McWard are decent prospect depth. More is never a bad thing. I do agree with the poster, I'd prefer a center prospect but not Poulin.

you aren't going to get much more than a 1st (Pickering) 2nd and a solid goalie prospect. Sure it can be changed a little but overall, an Injury prone winger won't land you a kings ransom

Jets are better off keeping him indeed in hope he has a full healthy season for what seems in forever in order to boost his value but if they do move him, you will get less than you expect.

Your analysis makes sense, except for one glaring issue. The jets do not need to move ehlers. He still has 2 years left and he’s young enough to be part of any new core the jets try to retool around. Getting him will take a massive overpay as the jets literally do not want to move him. He’s our best 5v5 forward and it’s not even close.

Which is why I mention that Jets are indeed better off to keep him in hope that he has a fully healthy season and builds value. But he can be viewd as an issue with the Jets re-tooling since he can't be relied on to stay healthy and that's something that is valued alot by teams

ya I personally have 0 interest in trading for a Goaltender, Id much rather bring back Jarry and sign a 1B than sellthe future for a goaltender
