Cooley leaving as a UFA after college. Not necessarily to the Ducks, just leaving. No arena deal and uncertainty around the franchise as to where they will play is leading him to stay in school. Their #1 prospect bolting would be the ultimate kick in the face for a team that has taken a lot of kicks in the face.

    Was this Gary’s first franchise?

No. Moving Minny to Dallas happened first.
Then Quebec. Then Winnipeg. Then Hartford.

All 4 moving from passionate northern hockey markets to the South where people needed pamphlets handed out at games to explain the rules.

He won’t actually say something public because he’s a professional. It would be a very bad look.

    Exactly, he's not Dubois... 🤣

Yeah that doesn't mean he wants won't ie that all these agms don't understand the situation. Going back to college isn't the end of the world he could win the ncaa title be a hoby baker winner definitely still helps him develop

what is the point of this site if not to needlessly speculate over things that prob won’t happen? if you don’t want to see mock trades don’t come here

it’s just speculation tho. it’s not insane based on evidence to think cooley is waiting for the franchise’s future to be secure to sign even if it’s unlikely he ends up elsewhere. if you don’t want to see this stuff don’t go on cf, idk what to say, this is the point of the site

It would be different if he gave more indication but it's way to early and frankly people don't understand the situation at all

All 31 other teams would be bidding on him. The trade offers will be large. Player and franchise will both survive.

    And now look…

The Whalers and North Stars are in the conference finals as the Hurricanes and Stars along with two other sunbelt franchises. And the Nordiques won the cup last year as the Avalanche.

All have loyal strong fanbases. All successful.

Frankly, all the Yotes really need is a change of ownership. They had garbage owners for most of their existence, and not paying the bills should be the straw that breaks the camels back.

As for Cooley going back to college, his decision may have been influenced by the arena veto, but any intelligent individual would know that that isn’t the only possible influential force. The draw of a D1 title, a Hobey Baker, which he has a very high chance of winning, and also as a way to further develop his game. I mean, it’s not like he would have been immediately brought up the Yotes anyway. He would have had to spend at least a year down in the minors with Tuscon before he would be given his chance at the NHL level.

The Yotes won’t let Cooley become a UFA, rest assured. If, on the very small chance that Cooley does want out, they will move him for a haul. But unlessCooley actually asks the Yotes for a trade, he isn’t getting moved.

Carolina was successful because the team was good immediately.
Dallas was successful because the team was good immediately.
Colorado was successful because the team was good immediately.
Vegas was successful because the team was good immediately.
Tampa was successful because the team eventually became good.
Nashville was successful because the team eventually became good.

Arizona has been unsuccessful because the team was bad. They have always been bad.

If Dallas, Carolina, Tampa, had inept on ice play the way the coyotes do, they would not be success stories. They’d be just like the Atlanta Thrashers and Arizona Coyotes.

I would not really call Florida a success story either. They sell out in the playoffs only, which they historically made once every 5 years or so. Even when they’re a good team they don’t sell out in the regular season.

It’s a sportsnet article. I could link it to you. Or you could just go find it yourself and stop being lazy.

First off, he SPECULATED that Cooley might want out, but Cooley never said that. Second, what is the problem with citing references to back up your claims? Everyone seems to make this argument constantly that "it's not my job to educate you" or "stop being lazy and find it yourself". If people can't do a simplistic thing like sharing information, what is the point of engaging in these conversations in the first place?

I shared it with him when he claimed it didn’t exist. I could share it with you too right now. Or you could stop being lazy and go find the shared link yourself in the thread

Well, I personally DID already see that, which is how I know that it was speculative reporting and not fact. But what I'm saying is there is no point of engaging in arguments and proposals if you aren't willing to cite references to back up your claims. Instead of calling people "lazy" and getting all bent out of shape about stuff, just have civil discussions. Maybe if you were willing to do that you could actually change minds. It's not a very difficult thing to do. I'm not trying to be a dick, it's just an observation and a suggestion.

Regardless, I think AZ will be fine. And I think they'll have plenty of time to figure the Cooley situation out and trade him if it comes to that, before he walks.
