So CBJ's 2 biggest needs (by a mile btw) are a top line center and top pair RHD to pair with Werenski.

And you're proposing that they......trade their best shot at both of those......for a 2 year rental that plays wing.....before they're even in their window to be good....

Just...why?

Jets accept. Getting a pick and a prospect to move on from Wheeler would be ideal. He's not worth zero, but nowhere near worth $8.25 million.

I suspect Toronto doesn't make that offer.

Caps won’t trade Tom Wilson. They are also already interested in Alex DeBrincat.

It doesn't even make sense from CBJ's perspective to trade ONE of those straight-up for Marner. For that package, we're looking at Matthews with an extension. (CBJ would still need to add in that scenario, but that's the kind of player we'd need to be looking at to move those pieces).

Adding a Top 10 Pick to Tom Wilson for William Nylander isn’t going to happen. You can be sure the Caps say Hell No to that.

Congratulations, you get the award for worst Wilson for Nylander trade on this site! You've had a lot of competition because a Wilson for Nylander trade has been posted at least once per hour for the past several years, but I can't think of another one this bad.

Regardless of what our thoughts are on this, Jarmo offered Mitch more than what he’s getting paid now with the sticking point being years. Mitch has since gotten better so it’s fair to assume Jarmo still values him extremely highly.

This deal is about fair value for someone of Mitch’s caliber but it’s absolutely fair to say Columbus passes given their current needs and that the want for Marner is dampened by the addition of Gaudreau.

Yes, I'm sure Jarmo values him extremely highly still, but his offer was 4 years ago and context is important. That offer was pre-Gaudreau and pre-Laine, so Columbus just has very different needs now (which happen to be top line center and right pairing D).

"First round pick and top prospect" would be the starting point for most teams discussing a Mitch deal, but for Columbus, the 1st rounder and top prospect are much more valuable than most...and happen to theoretically fill both major needs.

Really terrible for Columbus.

Would be happy to get that for Wheeler but doubt Toronto is a team that'd have interest in him, not sure if any teams will to be honest, he's such a clown.

That's not good for Washington, they decline.

You're overpaying in the Arizona trade, remove one piece coming from the Leafs.

Totally agree. I’m still bummed that CLB didn’t win the lottery because with the current core, Bedard, and Jiricek (not even including the other great prospects they have) would be a hell of a lot of fun.
