Patches Out - Kaliyev In
Can’t see any realm in which a team is shelling out a first for a 4th line centre given how little Toffoli just went for.

Minutes played...reg season or playoff...total and AVG per game?
Or playoff sharts, pretty sure Liljegren leads in those?
If you want to make the argument that you can find a more reliable defenceman for the playoffs than Liljegren, that's fine, but trading Liljegren and a first for a player that has been objectively worse in every way this season makes no rational sense.
Now don't get me wrong, trading Liljegren should be on the table, but it has to be for the right piece and Dumba is from from it.
Or how about the chance that Dumba can pair with Rielly in the playoffs?</div></div>

Pick your metric lol. If you want to look at advanced metrics it’s not close specifically defensively, if you want to look at basic metrics it’s also Liljegren. If your contention in offensive upside then why hasn’t Dumba produced at all?
As for pairing him with Reilly, I don’t see how placing a guy like Dumba who’s had defensive issues throughout his career including his best years in Minnesota solves that RHD slot. Not to mention the fact you’re paying more for a year of him than the assumed Hanifin cost

Why? Dumba is already a worse defender than Liljegren…

Trade for Nylander
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>PHEN</b></div><div>Sea says No. y trade for Nylander when they can sign him as a FA next year</div></div>
Don't understand this sentiment at all, if the Leafs aren't confident at getting Nylander @ a number they like and they decide to move him, the presumption would have to be made that Nylander is traded to a team in which he signs an extension with.
In that case, no, Nylander doesn't make it to free agency and no the Kraken cannot just sign him next offseason. Not to mention, its not like it would be some foregone conclusion that Nylander signs with said team, he'd likely have offers from over 20 teams in the NHL at that point.

Can Murray go to vegas
I don't know how anyone here is questioning the value going to Washington here. You have Strome who's absolutely a good player but is far from the player Nylander is, TVR who at his absolute best is a contending teams' 4th defenseman (again quite useful but far from fair value), and Milano who struggled to get offers on the table less than 12 months ago.
Not to mention, in addition to sending Nylander whose value is much more than the three pieces offered here (assuming extension which would likely be completed before any deal involving Nylander), you send a solid bottom-pair defenseman with top-four upside, as well as a solid young depth piece.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>digitalbath</b></div><div>2 prospects that have never nor probably will ever play in the NHL. Non factors at all. They don’t need to get rid of Karlsson, he has a positive value. The trade would likely be Karlsson for 2x1st and then a high end prospect, without taking Murray or Brodie, Leafs were on the verge of buying them out, why would they take on 9m to “get out from” 9m taking on Murray means pay even more than 2x1st and a high end prospect.</div></div>
Let's get to the real world man. Karlsson before this season was being mentioned in the same breath as some of the worst contracts in the league and with a lengthy injury history at his age, his value still isn't exactly sky high anymore.
Also, does everyone seem to forget what the value on Karlsson's last trade was? 3 bottom of the roster players, a prospect and a first. This deal is similar if not better than that in a vacuum as long as you don't use hindsight and act like everyone knew Norris would turn into a great player and the Sharks would tank to be a bottom 3 team in 2020.

Marner for Keller Who says no
Toronto says no pretty quickly. Marner is still handily the better player and everyone talking about the cap hit is making a much bigger deal than it actually is. Marner is only owed around 750K more than Keller per season in his remaining two years.
However, Marner also says no to this deal cause who tf wants to go to Arizona.

More Fun Permutations
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>Yes, I'm sure Jarmo values him extremely highly still, but his offer was 4 years ago and context is important. That offer was pre-Gaudreau and pre-Laine, so Columbus just has very different needs now (which happen to be top line center and right pairing D).
"First round pick and top prospect" would be the starting point for most teams discussing a Mitch deal, but for Columbus, the 1st rounder and top prospect are much more valuable than most...and happen to theoretically fill both major needs.</div></div>
Totally agree. I’m still bummed that CLB didn’t win the lottery because with the current core, Bedard, and Jiricek (not even including the other great prospects they have) would be a hell of a lot of fun.

Think any deal involving Matthews to Columbus starts and ends with a minimum of Jiricek and and this years first, and that’s bare minimum.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CaseyFlyman</b></div><div>It doesn't even make sense from CBJ's perspective to trade ONE of those straight-up for Marner. For that package, we're looking at Matthews with an extension. (CBJ would still need to add in that scenario, but that's the kind of player we'd need to be looking at to move those pieces).</div></div>
Regardless of what our thoughts are on this, Jarmo offered Mitch more than what he’s getting paid now with the sticking point being years. Mitch has since gotten better so it’s fair to assume Jarmo still values him extremely highly.
This deal is about fair value for someone of Mitch’s caliber but it’s absolutely fair to say Columbus passes given their current needs and that the want for Marner is dampened by the addition of Gaudreau.

Palhal, you’ve been out here for years dunking on players and have been calling for some of the worst valued deals I’ve ever seen. Nylander is the first that comes to mind, specifically around the time he was holding out. I get that you hate your own team but stop acting like you’re seeing something we’re not.
Have the Leafs created a situation in which it’s harder to build a deep roster? Absolutely they have, have they continued to work around it affectively? Yes, in a vacuum they absolutely have. Will one of the core 4 be traded this summer? Almost certainly, but expecting the type of value you’re insinuating is on par with your takes about Nylander however many years ago.

And I completely agree with that. Team matters a lot here for both fitting windows as well as affording the current cap hit. However many posts here create scenarios that are hilariously one sided deals with the expectation that Marner/Nylander/Matthews come with compromised value.

Many Leafs will say..."You can't replace Marner." Maybe so, but Marner shouldn't be the 7th highest paid player in the league, so a good GM (not Dubas) will find better for 11m.</div></div>

Keeping them makes the team considerably worse as well as you will be filling in league min deals for the rest of the roster.</div></div>
Teams that move on from the best player in the deal almost always lose the trade. But trading one of those top players should never involve significantly downgrading without at least gaining draft capital. Also, why would the Leafs ever make this deal when Nylander is the cheapest of the three.
People on here are two ignorant to realize that GM’s are blinded by their anti-leafs bias and that trading on of the core four isn’t a cap-dump which is essentially what everyone in this platform treats it as.
