And he's got more DoGPoG penalties in the postseason than points....

Marner had 4 more points than your highest scorer these playoffs...?

But Carolina's postseason isn't over... anyway, not exactly impressive when this team is missing 3 top six forwards due to injury

It's a point-in-time comment. Both have played 11 games, so a comparison in production is relevant.

Injuries or not, Marner would instantly become your best player by a long shot.

marner trade or any core 4 leaf would require a top 4 defenceman not picks and prospects

Toronto would be out of their minds not to take that. I get that they're mostly looking to just restructure and still compete right away rather than getting draft picks, but in a trade this important, they have to maximize the return value. And the value there is just too good to pass up. They can trade those 1sts for other players if they really want, and Morrow is exactly the prospect they need.

Think the exact same thing. Especially since he has 4 more points than anyone in Carolina.

Think they will want an established player.

Necas, a 1st and something else.

Carolina isn't moving almost all of their futures for two years of Marner.

I don't know what the rest of this thread has been smoking but if the Canes can make it to the ECF and the second round last year WITHOUT Marner, they certainly don't need to sell the house for him lmao.

Did you forget that we have arguably a top 5 defenseman

Yeah should have wrote forward instead. I mean, Marner is better than Slavin but it’s not “by a long shot” so that was an L by me.

Fair enough... I still think that Slavin is better than Marner considering
A. His playoff performances and that he doesn't disappear in the playoffs compared to Marner
B. He elevates the play around him a lot more than Marner does

Don’t think either of those things are true, but to each their own. I personally just have a hard time classifying anyone as “disappearing” if they’re over ppg.

A. Okay fair enough for the playoffs in general he's pretty good but for those critical games in the playoffs (clinching or elimination games) he's at .66 points/game in the last two years
B. Look at the seasons that Brent Burns have had this year, Tony DeAngelo had last year and Dougie Hamilton's season the year before that and they are all pretty good because they can rely on Slavin bailing them out if they mess something up

For sure and don’t get me wrong, I think Slavin is ridiculous. Im not a canes or Leafs fan, so I don’t have a dog in the fight. And I’m not even sure that I’d trade Slavin for Marner 1-1, but that’s more to do with contract, cap hit and strategy needed to win in a capped league.

But objectively as a hockey player, cap and strategy aside, Marner is superior IMO. He’s high end elite, while Slavin is high end really good.

Your probably right but his lack of production is big games does concern me tbh

I mean is Marner a superior offensive player... Yes
Is Slavin a superior defensive player... Yes
Does Marner not contribute at the most inopportune times... Yes

A big part of how I look at players is how they contribute when the pressure is on them and it seems to me watching the Leafs is that Marner seems to struggle with the pressure on him which is what dings him a lot in my opinion
