Description
With all the Toronto destroying everything and trading everyone thing going around... I've decided to join in because why not... it would be the first thing I've seen play all second round. A few ground rules that I would make:

1. No trading with Sakic or Yzerman; if you make a trade with them, you lose...

2. JT stays; He loves being in TO and has been worth every penny IMO. It would also be very rude to trade him too and he could teach the young kids.

3. You've got to have more 'great' players than top end guys; more depth insures a quick ability to adjust on the fly.

4. Guys with 1 year left on their deal all come with extensions; the number that I put in the description is the money/term

5. This is what I think the Leafs should do; this is entirely my opinion, if you don't like it, there's a comment section to give me feedback

Trouba when the Leafs need, he can hopefully wake up the team with a big hit and would scare the other team into not hitting the Leafs players in fear. Laffy is a reclamation project... the Leafs have done this with so many players (Sammy as the last one)... Can Laffy be next?

Danault has a full NMC. He says no.

The Kings aren't going to trade their first 40 goal scorer in 30 years.

Easy no from LA.

The certainty of signing Matthews, if he wants to go home, he can go to Vegas, LA, Anaheim, Arizona or SJ... It's like what's being discussed now about MTL trading for PLD.

If Arizona doesn't end up getting Matthews (or worse, losing him to a divisional rival), their fans would all but riot

TBF, the 12th overall pick and Guenther and 3 seconds is a pretty good return...

No we’ll riot if we trade Cooley, Guenther, a retained schmaltz, 12th oa, and two seconds for one player, that’s horrible asset management. That’s like 6 first round picks worth of value, that’s ludicrous, we’ll sign him in free agency or keep building through the draft.

The Isles are not trading for Marner, or asking Pelech to waive his NTC.

Point 1 caveat. Unless the Avs are in dire need of a goalie, then you might win, but as they aren't then point 1 still stands lol.

BTW 'Schmaltz is a good bottom 6 guy' gave me a good chuckle.

The fans won't riot lol. A team rebuilding doesn't trade a top 3 and 6 ovr pick for a guy they could get for free. Even if they don't get him they stick to the process and continue building

The only way I'd be remotely inclined to riot would be if he signed with LA and said that he was willing to take less money to sign in Arizona, but the team wasn't interested. He's a marquee player, and Arizona is rebuilding. I think we're all comfortable with the fact our only hope of signing him is if Matthews is sentimental about coming home. I mean, back up the Brink's trucks if he's remotely interested in signing next summer, but there's no reason to trade for him.

Los Angeles knows exactly what they have with Danault and Kempe -- a playoff team. Trading them away for futures doesn't elevate the Kings to "serious contender" -- if anything, it postpones the team from arriving there. And the twelfth overall pick, even in this draft, isn't likely to have as positive an effect as either Danault or Kempe, never mind the time consideration. In short, Guenther doesn't equal Kempe and the Ottawa first doesn't equal Danault, and even if they did, it wouldn't happen until 2025-2026 at the earliest. If you don't believe me, you don't have to look any farther than Anton Lundell, who's an excellent player.

The players that Los Angeles needs for the near future -- LhDs and a first-class goalie prospect -- will be available in the second half of the first round. THAT's where the Kings should be focusing their efforts to acquire a draft pick.

I haven't seen a AZ game since the Covid pandemic but see Schmaltz as a bottom 6 guy in a lot of ACGMs

Delusional. Marner is a top 3 winger in the league. Pelech is solid but not close to even top 10 dmen in the league.
