Blake said yesterday that Petersen is going to be the guy in net for LA next season.

I like it but Kings fans are high on Grans.

Kings decline. Not giving up a 2nd AND a prospect equivalent to a 2nd/3rd AND paying the bonus to get rid of 5m cap. Rather keep him buried in the AHL or find a different suiter.

It is not getting rid of 5 in cap....best case it is 5, then 2 the following season and 1 in the thrid year for a total of 8 in cap if you wait a year and buyout the deal. Obviously the assumption is the 2nd and 3rd year should get washed away easier with the cap expected to increase, but the Kings got to figure out how to get there first year before saying year 2 is no biggie. If you bury Petersen in the AHL as you suggest and CAN sign just the combo of Vilardi, Gavrikov, and Korpi (or whoever you are replacing Petersen with otherwise) for 10 million (which may be a touch optomistic) total annually, you are over the cap by 3.8 (which not to coincidentally is the cap cost of a buried Petersen). Post bonus we are talking 5 million real dollars and 8 in cap (5 in year one) as the best case scenerio. The draft currency the Kings are dealing with is very late 2nd round picks (no other way you can reasonably look at them....especially with Petersen's cap to actually use on players). Who else are you dumping 5 million (8 total) in cap and 5 million real dollars to? How many teams have the cap space and finacial resourses to even be an option? 2? 3? With most every team having a bad contract they would not mind getting away from if they could.

I am calling BS on Blake saying Petersen is the plan. That smells like trying to bluff in poker. The alternatives are dump Petersen for less (and I don't think even 2 late future 2nds are getting that done), pick which one of Vilardi/Gavrikov/Korpi (or upgrade in net) you can live without (and even then the money is still probably pretty tight to make even 2 work), or door number 3 is you can pay even more at the deadline like a 1st & 3rd to get Korpi/Gavrikov for a 1/4er of a season instead of bite the bullet and sign them for the entire year.

I think Grans is still pretty raw and has a ton of potential. Hawks do this, probably give Peterson games in AHL and first guy up if they need a call up. Letting Commesso keep developing.
