Sure it's a lot but Petey is untouchable unless forced his way out or McJesus is on the other end of the deal.

Replace some of those pieces with Suzuki or Caufield. You can't expect to get Pettersson without a proven player coming back

rn i wouldn't even do a swap one for one, and i know he's better than Suzuki btw.

I don't agree with that tho, they could make a deal like that if he wants out or the team stinks soo badly that they're forced to rebuild and by that amount of picks it's really good

Canucks decline. Pettersson is untouchable. He's our franchise centrepiece that we are building around. If for whatever reason the Canucks move Petey, it would require the acquiring team's superstar coming back (In Montreal's case, Suzuki++).

Why would you not do a 1 for 1? Pettersson is miles and miles ahead of anybody on the Canadiens. It isn't even close. The team isn't rebuilding. This clearly shows you know nothing about the Canucks.

It would be a very big + because I'm not convinced Suzuki is even a 1C. His production is decent, but not elite level. His defense is terrible though. Way overrated because he was good in his rookie year. He has the same defensive metrics as Brock Boeser. It would likely cost Suzuki + Slafkovsky at minimum

You wouldn’t swap a high end 2C for a high end 1C? That’s interesting

Imho canucks should pass, the way I see it is, Demko for the 2025 1st, Allen, Dovrak and Mesar I and just don't see that being enough for us to move Demko, then Pettersson for Slav and Both 1sts I just don't see enough for the canucks to bite imho, I am not that high on Slav I think he was taking way to high, and I just don't see anyone outside of the top 4 as having as high celling as Pettersson

I totally agree. I'd take Pettersson over Suzuki any day of the week. In my opinion, there's 4 players I'd consider moving Pettersson for. Those are McDavid, Makar, Fox, McAvoy. McDavid obviously because he's the best player in the league, and the other 3 cause they all come with term and could immediately slot in next to Hughes as a 1 RHD for the next 5+ years.

I’d put Jack Hughes in that list as well. Petey is slightly better right now, but Hughes is signed long term with arguably the best contract in the league

That's a lot but Pettersson is a top 5 player in the NHL, you're not getting him unless Caufield and Suzuki are part of the deal. All those pieces are very unproven and Slafkovsky looks like a bust, Dvorak and Allen are C+ pieces at best, this trade makes VAN infinitely worse. The fact that you added Demko to this trade only adds insult to injury. No Deal.

Hell no, I'd take Elias Pettersson over Makar, Fox or McAvoy any day of the week. Pettersson is the most complete player in the NHL, the ONLY pieces I'd be interested in moving him for is McDavid, Jack Hughes (plus assets) or the 2023 1st Overall Pick.

Obviously both teams decline. Slafkovsky will be elite, probably 80+ points in his prime, and I see him having possibly a 90+ point career high. We are giving up possibly a top 5 pick, Will Smith possibly. Realistically, he got the chance of being nearly as good as Petty just looking at where he will be drafted vs how good this draft is. On top of that there are a lot of other decent picks. Obviously Van declines as well for obvious reasons but it is never ok for a franchise to move a lot of their most promising pieces for 1 player, even for McDavid.

I don't understand why would VAN want a player like Suzuki or Caufield back for EP40.
If you trade away Pettey, it's because and only because you are going full rebuild Chicago-style. Then you have a 4-5 year period of non-relevancy.
You would waste at least half of a 23 yo's prime, weither it's Suzuki or EP40.
If you trade Pettey, it's for high draft picks and very young NHL ready players like Slaf and Ghule whose prime gonna come at the same time your picks start playing their potential.

With the fact that he has the toolbox to get 90 points per season and that he has an amazing worth ethic and discipline, its not very far fetch to say he is a ppg guy

Those are the only guys I'd consider moving Pettersson for. Personally, I'd rather just keep Pettersson. I wouldn't move him 1 for 1 for any of those guys, just would consider it if they came with other valuable assets.

This is easy, everyone declines. Too much chaos. A trade like this has never happened. Not even the Lindros trade had this much going on
