This team is not one Konecny away from making the playoffs. That 2024's 1st is much too valuable to be sacrificed in return of a player who could test free agency in two years.

More than MTL should be comfortable paying at this stage in their rebuild... he's a UFA in 2 years, makes no sense.

Probably more than that, based on Koneckny's age, his production this year on a team that couldn;t score, his pretty team friendly deal for 2 years (compared to Horvat who got 8mil for 8 yrs with not dissimilar production).

If on the market, PHI would probably receive far better offers than that. If Horvat, as an expiring UFA got a middle six 26 yr old Beauvillier, a 1st and a 2nd and a midlevel prospect from NYI, or struggling old man RO'Reilly got that package from TOR = Koneckny probably gets the same, if not more.

And its also about what would PHI (mgmt and the fans) want - they'd want more, and dont need to make that deal, they'd get more when/if Koneckny gets further in contract or plays with other first line players (last 2 seasons have seen PHI's top 6 decimated by injuries). But really PHI doesn;t have to/want to trade a 26 yr old playing at a PPG pace on a team that cant score, because he bridges the gap at a cut price while they rebuild. (PHI played last year with 6-7 rookies and 12-14 players in their 3rd year or less, so in 2 yrs time when its time for Koneckny to be resigned PHI should be able to extract alot or decide to keep him)

Yes, but thats probably not going to change any time soon with Gallagher, Price, etc... and a ton of poor value in trade or older guys like Armia, Hoffman, Savard, Allen.....

Totally agree, but that was not my question. I want to know his value and I only really know the value of Montreal's prospects in the market.

While I think he's a great player, I doubt Montreal trades for any player they cannot resign.

What I realize is that I asked a question about what his value is and rather than answering the question, you are "putting words in my mouth" about how I want the Habs to go about their rebuild.

All I am asking here is what is the value of Konecny on the trade market. I used the Habs players because I know that team the best.

I think there is a chance the Habs can make the playoffs next season, yes. Is it likely, probably not, but I am not going to count them out.

It does not in any way mean that I am expecting them to trade for players on UFA deals as Hughes said he wouldn't do that.

Ok. You mean the response to a comment about how the Habs will not make the playoffs with Konecny where I said, yes they could make the playoffs if they got PLD, Konecny, and a big UFA RHD signing like a Severson.

Yes I think if they did that they would have a good shot at the playoffs. But I categorically do not think they will do that specifically because Hughes said he won't make short term moves that sacrifice the long term.

I think that you're not far off, because a first-round draft pick and an A prospect is what brought Kevin Fiala to the Kings.

I think that a third asset would probably be required for Konecny because Philly isn't under the same pressure to deal him as Minny was to deal Fiala. I'd say a 2023 first-round draft pick, an A prospect and a B prospect; if you move the pick to the 2024 draft, you'd have to substitute an actual roster player for the B prospect. That's just my feeling. Teams with additional firsts like Detroit (Islanders) and Nashville (Oilers) and St. Louis, or a team that trades away firsts like Toronto, might be interested in him (although the Maple Leafs have some cap issues).
