If Habs win the Bedard sweepstakes, that would give every reason for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton to expedite the rebuild. Trying to be competitive while Bedard is on a ELC could really give the Habs flexibility to put an extremely competitive roster on ice. Making acquiring PLD sooner a higher priority, for two reasons: 1. Being more competitive in Bedard’s rookie season 2. Lowering PLD contract aav as opposed to spending on him as a UFA. Thus, increasing the value MTL would send for PLD.
If MTL doesn’t get 1st overall, the likelihood they move 17th overall becomes really low. Too many chances of grade A prospects still being available at 17.

I still think Habs would have “untouchable” prospects (Beck, Hutson, etc.) Not that I would never trade them, but not in the context of a PLD trade (a trade for a proven top pairing RD would be different).

Not a lot of moves need to happen this offseason. But clear positional targets would be upgrading at RD and Goaltending. Buyout Hoffman and let Gurianov go. Roll with the offense you have, with more youth being available than ever before in Laval (Roy, Heineman, Farrell, etc.) to be called up.
