Nice thought on the Carter trade. But don't think the Wings should be helping one of their Eastern Conference playoff competitors....the race of the wild card places, by giving the Pens a cap break.

Oh, so if NY matches the Offer Sheet, all we get for making it possible was postponing the third for one year? Do we LOOK like a charity?!?

Los Angeles won't be trading Sean Durzi for draft picks unless they get a 2023 first or very early 2023 second. LA needs a top-flight LhD, not futures.

The Carter trade I could actually see some version of if there's someone Detroit wants to move up and get but those kind of deals always depend on how things shake out that day,

Detroit trade is not unreal. The NMC raises the price substantially though. The buyout is over 2 years, but the better option is dump him in the minors for 1, but NMC prevents that. 1st and 2nd round pick needed

LA needs to be talking to Detroit. Got any A level prospect RHD or scoring wingers? I already know the center depth is shallow thanks to the crapiness of Turcotte and underwhelming-ish Byfield. I know, Byfield will get better, his floor is higher now, but his ceiling is a bit lower...

Jordan Spence has excelled at every level at which he's played so far, and is projected to replace Durzi. Your middle 2023 second might be enough for him.

Anaheim is not going to accept moving back a year on the pick if the payment for doing so could go up in smoke. the 2024 has more value to you than the 2025 as you need it for an OS, we know that, so it will cost you to get it back no matter what you (or NYR) decide to do.

I was thinking more for trading for a Detroit LHD prospect. Edvinsson is probably out of prospect territory, Wallinder has improved ten fold in less than 2 years and looks every bit ready to be 1a/1b with Edvinsson in two to three years, and Albert Johansson could be the best all around D in the system. Then we have Shai Buium who has as high an upside as he may also just be bottom 4, and Sebrango who is a year away. McIsaac is the 22 year old who could become a top 4 easily, but can be bottom 4, only not getting a chance to shine due to LD prospects in the system coupled with injuries early in his pro career. Detroit's LHD prospect dam is full and bursting. Someone needs to go. What A-/B+ level prospects does LA have at...anything but LD? Serious question, no homer glasses.

The guys I'd hate to lose (which is a good measure of their value) are Spence and Grans at RD, Fa-gem-o and Chromiak at RW, and Pinelli and Helenius at C.

So what is Spence's upside? Sell me on him...I know I can look at stats and stuff, but the fanbases are the ones who really can give perspective.

I've been honest on my assessment of the Detroit LD prospects. In this order of top pairing potential :Edvinsson, Wallinder or AJ, Buiuim, McIssac, Sebrango. Edvinsson is the sure bet stud, he is locked in. After that...they are all prospects. McIssac is probably the only one I see a sure bet NHL career, but his ceiling started high and gets lower as his floor raises; that said his early career was destroyed by injury, so he has decent potential to reach his expectations of top 4 two way D...and then some. Sebrango is McIsaac but a bit younger and less injury prone (also lower initial expectations). Buiuim might as well be the frigging draft lottery; awesome, then ok, then meh, then holy my; he is work in progress with top 4 or top 6 potential. Albert Johansson might be better than Seider (no joke) but he is a slow growth guy; think Lidstrom with a lower starting point and (of course) a lower ceiling, but there's a 1 in 20 chance he wins a half dozen Norris trophies. Wallinder has top pairing potential, and has done nothing but get infinitely better after missing out on a team Sweden callup that Kronwall coached him after;seriously shocked how fast he went from promising, to waste, to wow he is good.

Detroit has no other prospects worth mentioning at the moment outside of Kasper (destined to be the 33rd best center in the league with an off chance to be a top 10). Mazur is for sure unbelievably promising, top 6 scoring winger, but need to see more. Hanas just looks like one of those Jarnkrok types that have two very different possible outcomes, but there is an NHLer there.

Spence doesn't have the upside of Edvinsson and frankly, I don't see him being more than a second-pairing guy, but he's an exceptional offensive talent and you know how well we develop the defensive talents of blueliners. I'd put him every bit the equal of Wallinder, Johansson or Buium, and he's ahead of all of them in development. I think that there's a good chance our two teams do something along these lines in the off-season.

At a semi-detailed glance...I'd be ok (vomit in mouth it's ok) with Spence for....jeeze.. I am not sure if AJ or Wallinder. I'm not sure Buiuim is in the same conversation, but if he is, then we have a deal.

This is the fun part of Capfriendly.com. I got introduced to another teams' top prospect. Seriously you have a good shot at a gem.

I think Buium makes it in that conversation because of what he is as a player, and the raw mystery in a early 2nd round gamble. You look at him and see some of the highlights from when he was in junior and he wows you, but then you look at his size and the way he plays outside of highlights and its reflected negatively in his stats. Projects as an offensive D that is more of a defensive guy.

The DET trade may be make sense for both teams - the issue is Carter isn't waiving so he just blocks the trade.

I get that Lafreniere is young but giving up a 1st and 3rd to pay a guy who's never scored 40 points 6.3 million dollars seems like a quick way to get fired.

Are we making the playoffs? Any realistic fan will know we’re not . If we really like someone we’re afraid wont be there 4 spots later why wouldn’t yzerman do it for 2 mill? (Obviously easier for us to say these things since it’s not our money lol) I suspect we’ll have comfortably more than 4 mill cap space available. We didn’t use it to get a 1st for monahan etc.. we should use the cap to our advantage now while we still can (before the big extensions kick in)

A charity lmao teams trade a 3rd from one draft year for example to the next year if they have a surplus. Pens would just need there 3rd back to make the offer sheet . Wtf you expecting? An extra 1st attached ? Get real lol

As for durzi I might be wrong but I don’t see anyone giving up a 1st . If it actually happens it would be a very late first from a cash strapped team like tampa looking to take advantage of the cap hit

Pens won’t give away carter with a 1st . It’s just one more season left and if we bought him out it would be one year cap hit . We’d have to pay him 1 million actual dollars for 2 years in a row. I think we’d be able to live with one year 3.1 cap hit on the deal since we have a lot of cheap contracts.

Plus in this scenario if we wanted to move up it would help us maintain our 3 2nd round picks

I’m not trading wallinder and possibly the other 2 (I dont think yzerman would deal buium since he drafted him) ... I think Sebrango will be a good defensive dman that can cause problems so im reluctant to lose him but he and viro would be my trade baits at a deal down the road for someone with possibly 2024 2nd. I’d like to keep our 2nds until the draft day itself and see who’s there at 41-42-43 cause that might end up being where we win the draft. If we can land a late 2nd early 3rd for trading a pick and we think we can get someone we like late then i’d Consider it but i’d Wait to move one of the picks
