I don't understand why so many people are down on Pettersson. I have always liked him and would do that trade in a heartbeat, prospects be damned. With him and Tinordi on the left side that leaves two LHD openings for young players/prospects, which should be more than enough space. Especially because Korchinski is, in all likelihood, going back to junior for the 23-24 season.
Also, putting a defenseman of his caliber with Jones would help Jones play better and possibly make him a more desirable asset should they mutually choose to part ways. I could see things going either way with Jones, I could see CHI hoping to move his contract at some point and I could also see him being in CHI for the long haul. Either way, giving him a legit partner with experience doesn't hurt.
Pettersson is big, skates well, is good defensively, has some offense to his game, and, at 26 years old, is still just barely young enough to be part of the future of CHI. That is, if a prospect doesn't take his job and he doesn't receive an extension and/or is traded. If nothing else, he is a flippable asset... Especially at that price.
