I saw the top trade and thought: "wow, this guy really thinks highly of Granlund" then I read below and realized you weren't insane.

Hawks aren't giving up any of those guys in a Granlund trade. That 2nd alone probably isn't enough for the Hawks to take Granlund.

Hawks counter with Pens '24 1st and Granlund for Slaggert.

CHI takes on $11M in total salary for a 2nd round pick in 2024 AND gives up one of their good prospects? Sorry, but that is not happening. Like Hawksguy81 said, MAYBE Slaggert if you send your 2023 1st. I would be asking for a 1st round pick ALONE just to take Granlund's contract with nothing going back to PIT, though.

Nashville needs centers more than dmen. Nashville holds onto novak and if longterm negotiations go south, nashville could get a pretty penny at the deadline if novak has another season like this one

They took on Tyler Johnson for a similar return, I’d imagine it’d be close to getting it done, I don’t think it’d take a 1st, but maybe rights to a lower pens prospect or another pick but Granlund has just enough history for a team to say, hey if we give him 20 minutes a night we could flip him for even more later

Yea they definitely could, I was hoping they’d take a guy that’s younger and gives them a good LHD for the future and bank on Novak regressing a bit, I’m not sure exactly how highly touted he was but Ik last year he struggled before doing well this season, POJ has a lot of worth to teams too since he’s already proven and is at least a second pair guy on a decent amount of teams

Novak was considered to have an outside shot at being a late 1st round pick his draft year but injuries cost him. I think he has the ability to be a 50ish point C long term. His goal scoring will definitely regress some as he isnt a 20% shooting % player. He isnt great at the dot either. Id be open to trading him to be honest but we are fairly set at LHD with Josi, McD (for better or worse he isnt going anywhere), Lauzon at the NHL level. Stastney appears to be a keeper as well and should hopefully be seeing NHL time in the near future. I just dont know where we put POJ. Our NHL d group is crowded

That was CHI's previous GM and it included Tampa taking back an almost $7M LTIRetired contract. Also, they still thought Johnson had value when they acquired him and he was not a cap dump, and they acquired him with the idea that CHI was still a competitive team. But, Granlund is a pure cap dump at this point, and in all likelihood won't be flippable. Paying $11M and crossing our fingers to MAYBE flip him will cost more. Idk, though. Maybe you are right, and CHI's new gm might see value in him. But I doubt it.

Ngl always forget Josi is a LHD lol, my mind automatically thinks he’s a RHD for some reason, my thought process was just maybe they move someone or someone plays their off side, plus they have a bunch of guys injured rn and Novak may be pushed down to 3C anyway, so why not get top 6 value out of him if possible off a 20% s% year, honestly feel like POJ might be worth more than him considering his age and potential

Teams actually value taking on LTIR contracts like that, and for TB it was 100% a cap dump and Chi knew that too, Granlund just didn’t fit in pitt, he still put up 41 this year with a pretty abysmal 20 games with the pens and 64 last season, he could be a PP1 and top six guy on a bad team that puts up 50+ and is a trade chip if you retain a bit

I get that teams utilize the LTIR pool to their benefit in certain situations, but I wouldn't exactly call it "value", compromise maybe. Johnson wasn't exactly a cap dump, though. Much like BUF with Eichel, TBL was worried about the "experimental" surgery that he wanted. None the less, almost none of those prospects would be on the table in any trade, let alone a trade for Granlund, and the one(s) that would be available, wouldn't be for this purpose unless PIT is willing to pay more. I personally wouldn't take him for less than a 1st, but I don't think our GM would actually ask for that much. A 2nd might get it done. Regardless, CHI is in a different situation going into next season than we were going into the 22-23 season and DEFINITELY a different situation from when that Johnson trade happened.
